What will it do for 1080p games?
Will it target Europe as well?
-
Is it like.. a full new iteration or?
-
No, think of it as the Xbox One version of the PS4 Pro.
-
Waiting for Scorpio S and PS4 Pro Slim.
-
Huh. I wonder if we'll ever get "next gen" again or if it will be more like smart phones where you just get better specs and eventually there's support cut offs
-
Eventually they're going to want to change things rather than simply upping clock speeds. Especially those Jaguar cores. Though it would be funny to watch them just use dieshrinks like Nintendo did with Gekko for a decade. (Oh wait, Microsoft and Sony already did this with the 360 and PS3.)
Then again, watching some of these Digital Foundry videos of the PS4 Pro "upgrades" for games...
-
There wasn't a particularly long lead up to the Pro coming out for developers to even get used to it or plan around it. From what I could tell there was less than a year from the time it was revealed to developers and when it actually came out. I'm sure bigger studios got a bit more heads up, but still, this year will be a slightly better barometer of the support it gets.
-
I wonder if some of them had deals to put out these patches, because why else would you push a patch that creates worse performance?
Then again, the worst example is Batman, which is a series hasn't had the best history with putting out unbroken games.

Im really curious what will be in the Scorpio, doesnt seem like AMD Ryzen and Vega are ready for it power wise, but Ill bet they will be in the next gen
-
It's pretty weird how everyone's on their own time cycle now. Basically every 2 years one system will be more powerful than the other at this rate even though they'll be getting the same generation-ish games. I would've thought Scorpio would've launched around the PS4 Pro and just been stronger and more expensive. But at full year later is just weird.
-
They used the Xbox One S to bring in 4K and HD BluRay support already.
Its GPU is already clocked faster than the PS4 Pro is, it just needs a lot more CUs to hit the theoretical 6TFLOPS number.
Sony tried to do in one shot what Microsoft is doing as two steps. I'm going to assume Microsoft is also doing something about the RAM considering that the other figure they touted.
It also sounded like they wanted AMD to make them the Jaguar 8-core on one module.
They also have the ability to punt Scorpio down the road again since it's not like developers can leave the PS4, and thus Xbone, behind. The whole announcement may have just been to confirm they're working on it and shut up the leaks somewhat unlike with the Pro.
AMD's naming system for the GPU's doesn't really apply to the APU's like last gen with Xenos and RSX, Vega and GCN4 (which is in Zen) are essentially the same thing from the POV of making these consoles.

Buy/build a good PC. There's your Scorpio.
Waiting for Scorpio S and PS4 Pro Slim.
You're not going to buy either system, are you? :doge
-
Maybe. :teehee
But not until PS5 and Xbox One Two launch, probably, lol.

Nope and there is a million reasons why but ill give you a few:
-console exclusives, when is rdr2 coming to pc?
-comfy couch gaming, just not a real option for multiplayer games on pc youll get creamed if you dont sit at a desk and your mouse and keyboard are perfectly placed and you are aitting in the screen. gl hf trying to play cs from the couch :lol
-cheaters in pc mp games ruin them
-cant sell pc games, I sell all games i get bored off making gaming a cheapish hobby, if I had to pay 40 bucks per game Id buy like 2/3 a year
if ill build a pc ill build a pc, but it wont ever replace console gaming
-
The number of companies that can even afford to develop ultra high end visuals is pretty low too. It's one of those things where I feel like we will mostly only see the easiest possible options because the cost of implementing something that a fraction of the user base will ever experience isn't worth it. Until the user base shifts more heavily to the higher end machines that is.

AMD's saying it's ready but "No Ryzen SOC custom solutions till 2018". But at the same time I wouldn't put it past them saying they are putting a prototype SOC with Ryzen/Vega for MS or MS forked together custom Ryzen/Vega solution like they did with the i5 or i7/980m SOC in SurfaceBook. The Surface team are designing the insides and outsides of the Scorpio, so expect shenanigans.

But that means I have to deal with Windows store to get to their games :donot

awww yissss
next gen is almost here

I seriously doubt this thing will be what they said it would be (e.g a PS4 Pro-like thing).
They're just going to try and pull a 360 part deux.

How so? They've already got their 360 Elite with the Xbox One S. I don't think they're going to make another S model.

What’s the difference?
-
how is this even gonna have exclusives when the x1 barely has any to begin with? how are devs gonna optimize their games for this when they barely do a good enough job with their base versions?
i mean i expect this'll be better than pspro bc Microsoft but I still don't see how it's gonna be anything but a niche product designed to keep sku price high and prevent ppl from feeling like this gen went stagnant.
-
Maybe there'll be more significant upgrades (besides resolution and effects quality) once/if they decide to let the original Xbone die.
-
MS are fronting this will be a 'new gen' in all but name, but they kind of have the same problem Sony had with the PS4 Pro which is not wanting to piss off OG PS4 owners who would piss and cry like babbies if 'Pro' versions were crazily better.
One advantage MS has and in hindsight it's been smart, is they've already pushed most of their franchises to come out on PC and Xbox One so there is less chance of people melting down when we see the differences between versions as we're already acclimatized to the fact that Forza Horizon PC looks miles better than the Xbox One version.
My hope is that Scorpio comes out before Red Dead Redemption 2.
4k horses

What I mean is that they presented the thing as "part of the XB1 family" with games working across both systems, yadda yadda.
But what I think will happen is just like with the 360, they'll just kill the previous one and try to get a headstart on Sony.
In other words, it's purely a new gen thing (most likely with BC), not a PS4 Pro-like, and the Bone is boned.
-
I dunno i think MS means it with generations are dead, games will work across 2/3 gens max at different settings grom now on.
Scorpio could be very tempting if the 1080 upgrades are worth it and MS doesnt piss the bed with US only focus like the Cone
-

They can already do that without having the xbone version hold back with the PC versions. MS already told devs to just keep shipping their PC versions with 4K assets (Which has been going on since 2012, even) and that's the majority they need to do for Scorpio. Capcom's shipping RE 7 on Windows Store PC and implied it will be Scorpio ready day 1. Activision did the same with Infinite Warface/MW Remastered (And ballsed it up because they didn't implement Steam Cross play). And I believe the current set up of their executables on the bone means new hardware will see gains without having to touch the games much like the XB1S giving a small boost to some games framerates compared to the PS4 Pro where devs have to go back into the game and re-do them so they have choices if they want to patch the older games.
But then I think they will do a dirty by keeping their promise of "No Scorpio Exclusives. No one gets left behind" but then say that devs can ship more technically challenging games like Star Citizen on Scorpio without a Bone version because it's on Windows Store on PC anyway (CI are using their own launcher like Elite but I bet it will come to Windows Store since they are currently having a pissing contest with Valve and Windows Store has Early Access). That's probably going to be their sting in the tail regarding having to support the bone that "No one gets left behind". They will enshrine it as a retail requirement but digitally devs can just skip bone if they have a PC version that's way beyond the Bone's tech requirements.
(Bone will be years dead before Star Citizen gets a full release though :doge )
