Title: Ordered a budget mini itx pc
Post by: Cerveza mas fina on January 12, 2017, 03:28:33 PM
I needed to have something to type job applications on so I decided to build a mini itx pc and hook it up to the telly.

Cooler Master 110 Elite case
i3-7100
8 GB DDR4
240 GB SSD
1050 Ti

Will post pics when I assemble the lil blizzard box :rock

Can't wait to play some WoW on high settings :lawd

Anything I missed in the last few years of pc gaming that wouldnt run on my previous rig? (laptop with an i7 and a geforce 555m)

Mini-ITX builds are cool. I'd like to build one as an emulation box.

I was thinking of an i5 with a 1060 3gb but it will be placed under the tv without too much ventilation so temps would be an issue 1060 runs at 82 and 1050 at 62 celcius.

Also I wont be playing multiplats on it or anything.

edit: daamn now I just saw Intel enabled hypertjrrading on the Pentium line, could have saved 50 bucks on the cpu!

This is the tv thing we have, will just take out one plank and it will juuuuust fit, there are big holes at the back of the unit for cables and air so it will get some airflow but its not ideal

Yo folks, don't PC budget-shame.

But seriously PL, please don't suffocate your PC inside a TV bench. Let it outside to air.

Well look how much space there is there! I hope it will be fine

Don't my wife wants it to stand in the wild

I had a mini pc a few years back. I loved it. But as I kind of expected it had a short life due to component wear and tear.

MMOs tend to be CPU dependent, so consider that if you do plan to change CPUs.

Are you using the output from the video card, or from the motherboard (integrated GPU)?

Tried both

all fans except gpu are spinning, no beeping from on board speaker so ram is fine

I can safely say my mood is down  :lol

Take the ram out to see if it does beep. If it still doesn't the board is toast.

Can't you just get your money back, or are returns policies somehow worse in Denmark than in Germany?

I used pcpartpicker.com (https://pcpartpicker.com/) for my build a couple years ago. Automatically restricts cpu/board to those compatible. Unless you already did and this was some case where it was listed as 'compatible' but with a catch.

Er-what place wouldn't take it back if you say the parts were incompatible?

Pull the chip out. So long as you haven't bent anything you put it back in the box and just say you bought the wrong part, #whoops, and would like to return it.
