Title: When my cell phone rings, my wifi connection craps out
Post by: cloudwalking on January 26, 2007, 08:05:42 AM
But then comes back after about 45sec...

I have no idea why this happens. Interference? Is that even possible? It wouldn't be that big of a deal if I didn't get a lot of phone calls.

I have to avoid doing certain things on the internet when I am expecting a call, like playing online games or downloading something. It's fucking annoying, I noticed it again playing GOW co-op, I got a call, got dropped from the game and had to shut my cell phone off.

Do I need to set my router to a different channel or something? Could the cell phone have nothing to do with it?

I have a pretty old, crap cellphone, so I dunno if older ones will interfere with wifi or whatever.

Google's not helping, anyone here know anything about this?

That's weird.  It reminds me of an instance we had at work where if someone used the phone in the back room, it would cause the dsl modem up front to crap out and the registers would lose connection.  I so don't miss that job.

Back on topic, I dunno.  I would suggest maybe seeing if you could get a friend to guinea pig and try out their cell phone in the area of your wifi stuff.  Alternately, you could give me your cell phone number and I could call you and make your connection drop.  Wait, that helps nothing.  Sorry, must be the insomnia talking.  :(

probably the phone's frequency is the same so change the channel.  Google the model of phone and router to see if there frequencies are the same.

When my land line rings, my internet disconnects for a second. I guess there is too much shit on the digital line or something.  :-\

Just change the channel the router is using and you should be fine. If it keeps happening though get a new phone or get a 802.A network going cause that uses 5.8ghz instead of 2.4ghz which is fucking crammed with all kinds of shit nowadays.

When my cell phone rings I hear this weird ass static if it's near any other electronic equipment, especially a computer.

Yea i get that shit too. Actually, it's just my shitty speakers connected to my laptop, most notably the subwoofer.
