Since bork's banned me from the fighting game thread
:huh
Andy is now officially banned from all fighting game discussion threads. ;)
Played a lot of 64 in college until the owner smashed the console with a sledgehammer because we were playing instead of socializing at a party pre game
I think the point was to ban Smash talk from the FIGHTING GAME thread.

Now stop derailing my thread. :dice

Please tell me you're joking because that was an obvious joke! :lol
it's there a list of what nintendo games haven't been included in smash yet? I'm guessing it has to be pretty small.
Does anyone here still play Smash?
I'd be up for some games sometime.
...Can we even do private matches on Wii U? I can't remember. :lol

Yes, of course. :comeon
Gotta be on the friends list though. They added an online tourney feature after launch but I haven't messed with it.
And I haven't played in a while, not counting random 3DS sessions when the mood strikes.
Tonight at 9pm EST:
Are Cloud and Bayo really good? Saw a ton of people using them on stream
surprised that captainzack isn't sponsored. he's damn good. well, before his match against zero :doge
was rooting against zero before he switched to cloud :lol
Zero's switch to Cloud paid off. :leon
nah i'm pro-cloud, bayonetta, and robin. saw like one robin yesterday though :lol
definitely find sonic obnoxious to both watch and play so i'm with with you there
two stocks makes this game so much more interesting to watch than melee. melee is so sloooooooow
I know it's just because he's insanely good but Leo is doing a crazy good job of making Marth look super viable here. Always wanted to learn the character.so marth is gdlk in melee and 4? is it just inherent to the character because of his crazy reach with the sword or what?
damn all tied up!
smash 4 mario seems so much better and more fun than melee mario, definitely good changes made to him. though i guess dr mario basically the mario from melee?

makes me even more surprised they aren't porting smash in any way to switch, or haven't announced a port
Link then, Link Now, Link forever
Meh, I give a fuck about tier lists. Beating Fox and Falco players in Melee with Link brings the salt :lawd
ah ok, just tuned back in. any peach still in?
this commentary wtf :rofl
that ending goddamn
edit: clearly my stream is behind lol. gonna switch to streamlink, twitch site is the worst
peach pls :shaq2
peach gonna win :rejoice
Man...there's only so many times I can get hyped about Mango/Armada.
Wow. I don’t really follow smash competitively. But, those that say this isn’t a “Fighting Game” couldn’t be more wrong. This was extremely exciting to watch, and the technical nuisance in each and every one of those moves is insane. I’m a big fan of SF and the reads and execution were every bit as difficult of what I see from the top-tier guys on that scene.
This was meant as a reply to Slime, but I was too slow. :stahp
So doing a combo is :zzz, but jumping around and spazzing out is exciting.
OK. :doge
Again...it looks like they're just flailing around.
Yes, a lot of action on the screen with the game advantage changing hands multiple times in 30 seconds is exciting. How is this a foreign concept?
Between this and your "Melee is simple to play" quote I'm not sure how much you know about high level Smash. :lol
Getting a combo going in Smash is a hell of a lot harder than executing a combo in Street Fighter, not to mention all the aerial maneuverability.
But this isn't a thread for Smash vs. other fighters, and in fact I made this a separate thread to get away from that. So please stay on topic.
Also isn't it the largest fighting game community in the world? I see competitions for that shit at practically all non-industry game conventions.
It's a semantic argument stemming from historical baggage, as far as I can tell. People opposed to it don't want it called a fighting games because to them, that describes games in the Street Fighter II mould. The same way that JRPG implies more than just being a Japanese-made RPG (although I would prefer that definition myself). Even worse, Adventure and Action-Adventure, which sound incredibly broad, but actually mean something fairly specific.spoiler (click to show/hide)And fuck anyone who calls Zelda games RPGs.[close]
Video game genres are a complete mess. Strategy genres might be in the best places, 4X notwithstanding.
That's good it's now widely considered a fighting game.
jumping around and spazzing out
That's good it's now widely considered a fighting game.
Except that it isn't. :smug
jumping around and spazzing out
Exactly. Not a fighting game. It's a party game that's been warped to be competitive. I can appreciate the level of control (enjoy your carpal tunnel in a few years, I guess? :doge ) high-level Smash Brothers has to be played at, but it has no concept of fighting beyond "smash A/B and shoot/rocket them off the stage."
Maybe there's more positioning to it than I see in tournament videos, but like Bork tournament videos are :zzz :zzz :zzz :zzz :zzz :zzz :zzz :zzz So I don't bother with it. Like, DOTA (which I don't like) is more appealing as a spectator sport because it isn't "spazzing out." :esports
Also in all honesty: I own Smash Melee and have put maybe 2 hours max into it. Just not for me and totally not a fighting game (in my sense of definition). I don't get the appeal at all, but I mean hey it works for some folks. :trumps
