I can't find a quote, but apparently on one of the DVD commentaries Genndy Tartakovsky said that Ronin was an inspiration for the series.

I only own one disc worth of Samurai Jack, so I don't know much about it. It is not difficult to be better than Frank Miller's Rōnin; it was a major turning point in his career where his art became much more difficult to read and his storytelling less accessible.
