As you know Papoose is basically the biggest underground NY rapper, and he recently signed a huge deal with Jive. Right now he's getting a lot of support from the who's who of rap - from DJ Premier to Dre to freaking Large Professor.

Basically if you've heard of Blackalicious you've seen this done before, but it's still damn cool

What do you guys think? Is he the next great NY rapper?
Personally...I doubt it. My problem with him is that while he's got a nice flow and can rap, the dude sounds like a wanna be Big L. Which I guess isn't a bad thing since L is one of the greatest ever, but still...
Plus he seems OBSESSED with showing everyone how "smart" he is by listing off shit, like explaining the chain of command in the military or going over legal terms in entire songs. That gets annoying after awhile.

this guy finally snagged a deal? Damn. I was into him like 2 years ago. Pap is pretty good, but he doesn't really know how to make a good song. He's a good mc, but terrible song writer.

Exactly. That's the problem with most of these NY/other area underground rappers. They can't write a chorus to save their lives. That's why DJ Premier is so sought after - he creates choruses that people don't have to rap over. And then there's Kanye, who has been very successful writing choruses for great MCs like Kweli and Common.

Alphabetical Slaughter is still impressive but I prefer Blackalicious' take, but then I'm biased. Blazing Arrow is my shiiiiit. Gift of Gab is so underrated.

Yea, he did it on an older album too. I wish I could remember the name of it

None of his clothes fits him.
