Disney’s upcoming Johnny Depp film Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales has been pilfered by ransom hackers seeking payment from the studio. The hackers have demanded an enormous amount of money be paid in Bitcoin. Disney is currently working with the FBI and will not pay.
Although Disney CEO Bob Iger did not reveal which movie the ransom hackers claim to have, he did reveal to ABC employees during a town hall meeting in New York on Monday that the incident had occurred. The hackers said they would release bits of the film — in increments — if their demands weren’t met. Deadline learned that it was, indeed, Jerry Bruckheimer’s fifth in the Pirates franchise, which is scheduled for release May 26.
Well, that's certainly something that I didn't expect.

O man that's just going to get more people talking about how to stop piracy.
-
Was anyone going to see this in the first place?

First movie was actually pretty good. Second movie was okay, more of the same. Third movie was really long and kinda bad. Fourth movie felt like they were doing something different and interesting, but they didn't. Zero interest in a fifth movie.

I like action adventure movies and will take them in mostly any form. :shrug

This happened with Orange is the New Black's new season too. IIRC the first 10 out of 13 episodes leaked a while back, but the show isn't airing until next month. I can imagine it hurts a movie more than a Netflix Original though.

What kind of demands are those? We'll release BITS AND PIECES OF IT!!!! It comes out in a week and a half, your threat should be to release the whole thing no?
I saw that Disney revised the first weekend expectations down a whopping $15 million.

Last three all made around a billion dollars, increasingly as a share from overseas. And Disney spent over $300 million on the production before marketing, which is somehow down from the previous movie. They somehow even convinced Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley to come back after both slagged on the franchise. (I assume both were swayed by the groundbreaking script and a devotion to the craft.)
Personally, I've only seen the first one from TNT or whatever. There was one I came across on TV once but I couldn't tell which one it potentially was or even more so whether it was the start or ending or middle of the movie so I didn't leave it on in the background. At least with Transformers you can narrow it down based on whether it's Shia or Marky Mark.

They've probably watched too many movies where it goes like "if you don't send the money, we'll send you your daughter's fingers. One by one."

I hope there's a movie where Johnny Depp plays an FBI agent that has to get the Pirates of the Caribbean movie back.

Disney also threatened to release this movie.

The first movie is a classic...love it! Can pretty much do without the second and third films. They tried to turn it into this epic trilogy-thing and it just didn't work. The fourth movie wasn't bad and was based on the novel On Stranger Tides, which was also the inspiration for The Secret Of Monkey Island. :)
I have no idea about this new movie, because all the previews I've seen have been more like teasers that show next to nothing. It appears that this movie is really being made to set up Brenton Thwaites (who plays Henry Turner, Will and Elizabeth's son) as the (or a?) new main character going forward, since he's apparently signed on for multiple Pirates films and the others may not be.

I'll post this here too
For some reason, two different small companies are trying to revitalize the closed down Pirates of the Caribbean MMO, and one of the companies is threatening to kill the other if they release their game.

here also appears to be a fair bit of drama involved with the game, as detailed in this post on the forums. Another group, The Legends of Pirates Online (TLOPO) is also attempting a revival of the game, and, according to the Retribution programmers, “is literally threatening to murder members of the Pirates Online Retribution Staff.” Apparently, TLOPO tried to “Swat” the Retribution team, only to mistakenly hit a law firm; “Several people were injured in the process” the post claims. The Retribution project manager also alleges that TLOPO
“THREATENED TO CARRY OUT MORE SWAT ATTACKS, CAUSE ‘ACCIDENTAL’ GAS-LEAKS, AND EVEN THREATENED TO HIRE A HIT-MAN TO MURDER MY GIRLFRIEND IF WE WENT THROUGH WITH OUR PLANNED RELEASE.”

This just sounds like clever marketing. :doge
