I buy whatever has good hardware specs and I can install stock android on. Also I have a preference for mini/compact phones so i'm rocking a Sony atm.
- Are flagship phones justified anymore ? I guess they are for heavy usage (games ? insane multitasking ?) but otherwise it seems the only thing you can get a dramatic improve on is the picture camera ? I guess the screen too, though crazy resolutions on such small sizes are leaving me a bit dumbfounded.
- Why the fuck is there so few compact Android phones ? It's basically a couple of Samsung and Sony models now...
- Why even make phones without a SD slot ?
Google Pixel has a 5" screen. The Pixel 2 (Walleye) is rumored to have a 4.97" screen.
Because they're unnecessary with sufficient on-board storage (128 GB)
"Unnecessary" is subjective. You're objectively losing functionality and the possibility to extend at your leisure storage if needed. Also useful when the phone breaks hard, and I speak from experience.
Apparently RED (the camera maker) is making a smartphone, currently in preorder. Kinda curious...
I was excited from the headline, but the press release doesn't even mention the camera and was focused on selling the "holographic" aspect. Not to mention it won't even come out until 2018, by which point we'll have the Pixel 2.
Still using a Oneplus2
idk, I can't warrant the use of a flagship phone these days when the sub $400 offerings are so nice.
Definitely gonna swap this year, but like I'm not sure to what yet.
OnePlus has done so many stupid things over the years, starting with their "NEVER SETTLE" tagline...
really hope they haven't ditched the headphone jack in the new Pixel.

OnePlus has done so many stupid things over the years, starting with their "NEVER SETTLE" tagline (which was immediately followed by confirmation their first phone didn't have NFC.) Most recently their latest phone's screen is installed upside-down so it has a constant "jiggle" effect.
For the record I've bought various Moto E and G units for family and they've worked out mostly well unless you drop them in a pond or push them too hard.
Everything I've read about the Pixel XL 2 makes me think it's juuuuuuuust a bit too large. The XL was nice, screen was much bigger than the Nexus 5X but the phone was just a bit larger. Not a fan of phablets.
I really wish Microsoft would make an investment in app development. Take the loss in the front end by bribing developers to create the core apps and games needed for a successful store and spend bounties for others. Their portable desktop model was really special.
That being said I never use many apps any more really. Facebook, podcast, music, YouTube, messenger, chrome. Why do I need a flagship?
Pixel 2 XL is everything I've ever dreamed :rejoiceYeah their team is doing a very good job with computational photography. I still prefer a "dumb" camera (DSLR) like an old and petty craftsman but I was pleased with the quality of photos from my 5X and the pixels have been improving on that. Portrait mode & fake bokeh is gonna be :trash for a very long time though.
This camera brehs :whew

Fucking AMAZING low light performance. My jaw keeps dropping with every new pic I take.
Haven't even tried out my Moment lenses yet. :lawd

I got a 2016 Pixel XL and love it, btw. It's exactly the right size (pause) anything else is too big in my hand. Hopefully they move away from the phablet sized nonsense in the future but if not I'll have to flip a coin on whether leaving pure android behind is worth the form factor.
Still hemming and hawing about either getting a Motorola E4 Plus (or other similar phones on the sub-200€ tier) - or splurging on an iPhone SE. :-\I'm not a fan of any of the $200 and below android devices relative to the iPhone SE, but that's primarily because the 32GB SE can be had for roughly that price here in the states and in day to day usage it's crazy powerful relative to the rest of that price range. How much more is it than the E4 plus?
You guys and your 600+€ fancy-ass thingamabops. :-\

With the holiday deals, I would definitely recommend a Moto G5. You already see it going for around $230 in the US. I got one for my mom as a late mothers day present and it's pretty brilliant phone. There are some good Chinese manufacturer phones as well but you'd most likely have to order online (I think Huawei is sold in Euroland).Plenty of those, ZTE, Huawei, etc pp. ....mountains of choices, which is why I'm still paralysed. And frankly, having handled a cheapo 100€ ZTE recently, even with only 1GB RAM and a really grimy budget Mediatek inside, it worked well enough. Sure, it's only 99€ worth of hardware, and it shows, but it's kinda... Good enough. Ish.
My iPhone 6s is “trade in ready” but I think I’ll just wait until it’s paid off all the way and keep it when I get a new phone — it still works great and would be a great back up to have aroundI got a regular iPhone 6 that I've been on for just over a year. Picked it up for less than $200, which was nice, but now iOS 11 is laggardly. Apparently your 6s is the cutoff point for acceptable performance.
Is anyone here using tempered glass screen protectors?
Does it help preventing scratches or fissures if dropping? And more importantly, can you still use the touchscreen as before?

Yes and Yes. It's a good investment imo. It guards against scratching by getting scratched instead of the phone screen. The bad part is when it cracks, it tends to fall apart pretty quickly. Most phone carrier stores that sell them will apply it for you.
I also have an iPhone 6 and I haven't noticed iOS11 performance issues, with the exception for annoying bugs. Text messages often fail to load the last message.Maybe I’ll try a scrape-n-restore to be sure.
I've never been more pleased with a piece of technology. Maybe my Chromecast (for the price.)How does Chromecast handle reasonable-but-imperfect wifi networks now? I recall users really had to have optimized home wifi for it to work, when the hardware premiered.
