Lol i got the title wrong cuz it might as well be cancelled
-
yep, rough showing this past e3
sucks that Crackdown gonna go down as a fluke
:tocry

man what the fuck happened over at Microsoft

My understanding from the out-out-outside is that internal things go through reconsideration pretty frequently, but their management of external developers is legendarily inefficient and fickle. Sometimes casually mean-spirited, to boot.

Phil Spencer happened.

:holeup :mindblown
It looked like an budget title at e3, too. That "power of the cloud" destructible environments trailer years ago might as well have been CGI.
-
This console sucks
-
Pretty much. It's a streaming media machine for the most part now. :( Sucks.
-
Right around the time Scalebound was killed off, who was the "insider" goober on GAF that said Crackdown was coming along great?
:bolo
Also who is excited for the amazing Xbox One X Console? Bueller?
-
I heard the Shadow of War lootboxes open twice as fast thanks to the power of X (X X not regular X)

Phil Spencer happened.
What about Satya Nandella? Guy came from the cloud area of MS and his rise to the presidency is around the same time when MS increasingly focused on the service aspects of Xbox.

I think you're right. Since dude took over studios got shut down, games got cancelled, and the focus was solely on hardware.
Like dude's favorite game is Voodoo Vince and he got that shit remastered to expected crickets, yet everything else gets delayed, cancelled, forced to have multiplayer, etc.
I also found out he became head of software back in 2008, which is basically when the 360 became somewhat barren first party wise.
He gave us Phantom Dust on PC, so he's good in my book. :ufup

It's not them both. It's the "brain drain" they've had since J. Allard left. There's very little "innovative" shit that is like the X-box (forward looking, has a clear goal, is gonna be a reasonable price) from MS anymore.
Hololens? Too future forward, and not going to be at an acceptable price.
They need to stick to:
Windows,
X-box (possibly folding this into Windows and dropping from the console race),
Office,
Surface.
Maybe MAYBE servers, but that's a long shot.
And the Surface needs help badly because while I like them, the quality assurance has been spotty.

A quick reminder on Phil Spencer. He was head a MS Studios EMEA, and shortly thereafter, head of MS Studios, around the time:
- Shit went down with Bungie
- Lionhead was acquired and turned into a FABLE FABLE FABLE GIMME MORE FABLE outputting machine
- Rare got turned into a Kinect shovelware sweatshop
Notice a pattern by the way? MS is crushing leading british studios faster than you can say fish'n'chips.
But that's just to name a few specific examples. Ever since he replaced Mattrick, countless projects have been canned and studios closed. And he's been saying "no worries guys, we're gonna invest in 1st party and exclusive titles, promised" all along the way.
If the higher ups fucked up big time with the Xbone hardware and market model, he certainly has greatly contributed to running the software side of things well into the goddamn ground for about a decade.

Does it even make sense for MS to make a physical Xbox - vs going all software/software distribution
-
It feels like they're trying to make a steambox that's commercially successful over an actual console. Except that Steam actually has exclusives.
And is commercially successful

Steamboxes though... :lol
-
Good, more time for Sumo Digital to improve the Crackdown and All Stars Racing Transformed mode.
Steamboxes though... :lol
Cost Valve what though? They pulled an ol 3DO on the manufacturers there.
Of stuff they actually make, apparently they've sold nearly a million Steam Controllers somehow.

Oh I'm not suggesting it was a financial disaster for Steam. But the market for this kind of things is essentially zilch. And that's when it came on the back of Valve. Imagine from MS.
No idea how Vive is doing. I'm assuming not great, but then again it was probably HTC taking most of the hit, if there was any.
