Not really seeing any inconsistencies here, the Wii U is the perfect console for someone who doesn't like games anymore.

3D Land was pretty good.

3D World stretched the concept too far and the multiplayer is borderline unplayable at various points.

what i played of nsmb u felt like a complete rehash of super mario world. wasn't bad just extremely uncreative.

The term "collectathon" started with DKC...so...yeah...?  All that banana stuff. 

I mean, correct me if I'm wrong here.  I played the original DKC and hated it and never played another one after that.  I hate the art style, too.  Give me something more like Donkey Kong '94 over it any day.

The video makes it look like a bog-standard 2.5D platformer, not fundamentally different from the likes of 2.5D Mario games or Rayman Origins. What makes them collectathons? ???

Also, didn't collectathon emerge alongsie 3D platformers, particularly those which copied SM64's stars to unlock levels thing? Most commonly Rare's N64 games. Donkey Kong 64 is the collectathon that went too far, I know that much.

So it started with DKC3? Huh. Doesn't sound like they are essential, even in that game. Completionist "increment a number" and "unlock a secret level" seems fine to me. That's why I'm so confused. I never finished any of the DKC SNES games, but I never ran into a progression wall (besides my own disinterest).

So long as the games structure doesn't revolve around collecting stuff, I don't think it's fair to write them off as collectathons.

Tropical Freeze is good

NSMBU is dogshit. Luigi U is way better

3D Land and 3D World were boring, the only actual difficult level was the super hard final secret level

Honestly, I really do recommend watching that video that Rufus posted.  Collecting is still a thing in DKCTF, but it's the cherry on top of a fantastically rewarding platformer.

Friend offering me Wii U with 10 games for 300 dollah. Getting that. I'll keep waiting on that switch then.

It comes with mario kart 8. Should I play that or just wait for the switch version?

Also, should I get hyrule Warriors 3ds or Wii u?

Been hype on BOTW since the E3 when they showed it off. Really looking forward to it. Was going to get a Switch for it but had money problems at the time.  :-[ Looks like a great game!
