my god how do bookmarks workThe closet thing to that is the home page, I think. Should be the default for new tabs. Gives you up to a dozen tiles of your most used sites but you cad add whatever and pin it.

I'm not a superfan of Safari, but the fact that I can have shared bookmarks and history across all my Mac and iOS devices is pretty much the second-biggest selling point, right after how snappy it is on even my 2009 iMac which is on its last legs.
