I'm planning on breaking these down into weekly goals later on, but here are the broad strokes.

- Become a certified life guard. Basically getting my red speedo license.
- Blog once a month. I did this for about five years before becoming sporadic like most bloggers.
- I say it every year, but make more short films.
- Drink less.
- Sleep more.
- Look as good as I can this summer, and then keep it going.
- End the year with no cavities. After completely ignoring dental hygiene in high school, it's taken me almost a decade to fix those very costly mistakes. I only have two cavities left though, so this should be an easy one to cross off.
- Have a good savings account so if I need to move ASAP for whatever reason I won't need to beg friends for money.

I will find this person and make them pay for their lies.

- I want to go back to taking lifting seriously.  Not just do it to do it or to keep the weight off, I mean hitting the weights hard.  I was really into it 10-15 years ago and no reason I can't go back now.
- Hunker down and invest more, a lot more.  I have eight different types of investments and want to keep pushing further.  A lot of it is just due to wanting more and more of a Plan B in life.
- Play more Nintendo Switch :doge

There's a great podcast on spotify that my wife uses something like coffee break spanish or whatever. It's an Irish couple and they walk you through some conversational spanish stuff. My wife used it for a while before the holiday season and it worked pretty well.

For me:

 - I'd say figure out what I want to do with my job. But I have a feeling that it will work itself out one way or another
- Pay down debt
- Have at least 25-30 minutes of material concert ready by year's end. I already have about 5 to 6 minutes. So this might be too low a bar, but the pieces I want to play will be difficult. So...
- Travel less for work
- Build more muscle
- Cut out toxic social media (already shut down my twitter account)
- Finish the second draft of my book

Edit: Oh and I forgot, I want to do a study or really early Christianity. And I mean a real study. Not the namby pamby stuff I did as a religious scholar, where I was just given the answers. I want to find out how it all evolved pre-nicean and where Paul's anti-sex route really came from.

For having some passing familiarity with the subject, the corpus of historical documents to draw from is not excessively wide so you're probably bound to fall back on a lot of the same sources as religious scholars, at least as far as texts (and thus prominent figures) are concerned. A bit like how we rely on a dozen Roman historians (if that) for vast swathes or our knowledge... Still actually much more solid than early Christianity. I do believe the main other domain to draw from is archeology informing us of what life would have been like as a whole for societies at the time around the Med basin, which in turn will frame some speculative context for how the texts were written.

There was an excellent documentary series about the Second Testament in France. I doubt it was translated, but the list of academics participating (including people from the US, Israël, Germany, Italy and Jerusalem monks) could be useful if you need a bibliography.

Thanks for the guidance and I'll definitely check it out. I also got some books on the gnostic texts around the time and some greek orthodox stuff. I wrote my thesis on the idea of religious evolution (the idea that religion evolves on what society needs it to be at the time, not a popular topic at a religious school, let me tell you). So I really want to get into what was going around in the philosophy at the time and attitudes as well.

I fetched a list of names you can check out for academic research in the area, from the first documentary series I mentioned. I'm not translating their affiliation (probably not current, the series is 20 years old at that point), let me know if you have issues. It's mostly European centered but you have some Americans there and several anglophones.

I also mentioned on the same matter Thomas Römer who holds the chair for Bible study at the Collége de France (his cursus there is avaliable for free in audio form, but in French obviously. He's a lively mind, has clear delivery and always does a good job summing things up for us miscreants. He wrote several books of mild vulgarization though I'm not sure he's been translated in English a whole lot.

Heh really I just have superficial knowledge. I'm an hopeless materialist but it's an essential pillar to understanding any facet of European history anyway. Scientific study of the Bible is great because it combines critical reading, linguistics, archeology... into a relatable, familiar topic. It's perfect textbook example in understanding how history as a science work.
