Finally a football league where we can proudly stand for the American flag.

I'm writing my petition now to get Albuquerque an XFL team: the New Mexico Illegals! It'll be yuge!

This also puts a little clarity behind the WWE's big push into live Facebook events now. I imagine this thing will be on the Network, Facebook, and whatever NBC cable channel Vince can manage to put it on.

It's going to be weird seeing America's all-in bet on reactionary thought reflected in this product's worked shoots when the XFL let players express themselves with jerseys that said HE HATE ME and replaced the kickoff with a schoolyard game of steal the bacon.

Ticket prices are nine... ninety nine.
Finally a chance for Tim Tebow to be a starter!

Personally I hope they bring back the mad rush for the football at the fifty. "The Scramble."

Then what's the point?

Details
*Main thing is they want to listen to fans, players and coaches. *
8 Teams
No Franchise Model
No Cities yet
Not apart of WWE
Start time 2020: Late January/February
Vince will stay in control of WWE as well. Won't be out front in XFL
Wants to make it as safe as possible via bringing in experts
Mentions it being stream friendly on phones etc
Says XFL will have nothing to do with Politics.
Says National Anthem is a time honored tradition, very vague on the treatment and enforcement on said rules
There may not be a halftime
Vince says watching a 3 3 1/2 hour game is a lot, wants to get to 2 hours
Vince says they did have some thoughts about not naming it the XFl but kept it due to it being cool
Not sure about the nick names on the back of the jerseys, Says he loved he hate me and will allow fans to kind of decide
says he would want people to stand for the Anthem
Thinks team names will be all new unless fans really want the older names
Things like DUI will get you banned
Rules not laid in place but will be before anyone signs on
No cross over with Wrestling commentators and Football commentators
He will take a back seat and will hire professionals to help out.

Not much of a plan but they have two years. I can imagine Oakland and St. Louis will be offered teams. Not sure how he'll shorten the game but maybe shorter quarters and eliminating two minute warning.

Is it though ? Rugby is grueling and there's some very nasty illegal moves (forking the eyes in a scrum, spear tackle / placage cathédrale...) but the letter of the rules, to me, seem to keep contact within somewhat reasonable limits (in how they must be performed, where and when they are legal). I do recall that full protective gear in US football maybe had a perverse effect to give in pass subconsciously to more frequent and violent contact.

I may be wrong on this, especially since Rugby is apparently under much less scrutiny than the NFL on the matter. The sport only really became fully professionnal in Europe (officially) a couple of decades ago and the physical aspects of it mutated quite a bit since.

The XFL paid standardized player salaries. Quarterbacks earned US$5,000 per week, kickers earned $3,500, and all other uniformed players earned $4,500 per week, though a few players got around these restrictions.

Players did not receive any fringe benefits, and had to pay for their own health insurance.

I'm only interested in going to the L.A. games because they play where the L.A. Galaxy play(MLS) and where the Chargers played for the last couple of seasons. Those Chargers games were so expensive (Hundred of dollars for bleacher seats, with $50-$100 parking to boot) with near empty stadiums that I could never convince myself to spend the money.

If its decently priced, I might go since I live a couple of miles from that stadium.

They went for the opposite of the other offshoot league and decided to go to cities that already have more pro ready facilities. I'm sure people will watch week 1 like they did with the AAFL, but the dropoff on that was pretty bad as soon as people realized they didn't like watching Trent Truck get 40 carries for 2 yards a pop.

Going to the Dragons home opener. Cause why not.

And because I doubt the league survives more than four weeks.

Still want a return to the LFL, and the Yuke's game that was going to come out of it.

It's still around, they just renamed themselves the Legends Football League.

The Seattle Mist used to practice at Green Lake near my house. I was out for a run one day and was really confused what was going on.

some more rules changes.

no extra point kicks, 1/2/3 point options for extra points based on how far back you are from the goal. some punting/kickoff changes, a new overtime system that is more like hockey/soccer with shootouts, and you only need one foot in bound for a catch to count. also the clock doesn't stop between plays, except after the 2min warning.

It makes sense, and it'd be need to have a three-year lead-up to trying to reproduce the depth of material that's been built up in Yuke's games over the 20 years they were handling it. One wonders if the 2K team is more expensive than the Yuke's one, as Japan's developers still make significantly less than those in the West, especially California.

So if it wasn't money, it must have been a need for more control?

The pace is much better than the NFL.  But obviously the talent is in the NFL.

I could see the NFL adopting some of the rules, especially the kickoff differences due to CTE concerns.

What’s the verdict? Is it a disaster?

The pace and some of the rule changes are pretty nice and would probably make NFL games less of a chore to watch, but the talent level is all over the place and it seems like the teams that got competent QBs are winning so far. I really like the PAT rule changes from a strategic perspective.

I like that they tried to call them out for using Xbox pads for reviews etc. Only to be told to fuck off because NFL use them too.

I like that you can hear the reviews on plays, transparency for the people at last. The kits at the moment look like shit, they need to be more Xtreme for sure.

Like barely any bothered with arm details etc and they just look very poor.

I think the XFL can at least last a full season.

I did see they are refunding pre-purchased tickets to everyone, so that's nice.

It will be interesting to see how history views it. It had all the breaks not afforded most new leagues and it had pretty below average results. But in three years, maybe people will just remember that the virus killed the league instead.

I imagine most people think that now.

they were averaging a million viewers per game, that's not bad at all.

Did anybody really think the XFL was going to somehow work this time, even without corona?

Wasn't it tending down week after week? That was my recollection.

I did. Feb through late March is such a wasteland for sports content that anything halfway decent should do okay.  XFL was pretty close.

yeah it started at like 3.1 mil views and was trending down to 1.5 - 1 million but i believe (would need to actually google an article) it was still beating other saturday sports including NCAA basketball for whatever that is worth.

Following the news last week that the XFL had suspended operations, the league has also filed bankruptcy.

The league filed a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing in Delaware. You can read the entire filing here.

It turns out that these filings revealed that WWE owns part of the league, around 23.5%. This revelation comes despite previous denials that WWE and the XFL were completely separate entities. Other creditors listed include Bob Stoops ($1M), Marc Trestman ($777K), Ticketmaster ($655K) in addition to other coaches ($583K) and MetLife Stadium lease ($368K).
