Well, that's one way to get exclusives for your failing system.
-
this is dumb
-
Microsoft opened a premium loot box hoping to get a 5* EA, Valve, or PUBG Corp, but instead it got a 3* Deep Silver.
-
Only thing I've cared about from EA for a while now is Bioware and they're dead to me after throwing Mass Effect in the mud and then killing it, so MS can do what they want here and it won't bother/interest me.
-

Im sure if Nintendo was about to buy EA, you'd be hard as rock.
EA hasnt produced a decent game besides Bf4 and BF1 this gen. Microsoft getting involved cant make EA any more mediocre than they have been this gen.

Of course, cause then it'd mean a goddamn NHL game for the Switch. :maf
Also the Bone is objectively doing much the worst of the three current-gen systems. :miyamoto
-
But yeah, I'm starting to think if this is an actual thing that can/will happen then MS is going third party fo sho.
The consumer in me would be sad to see less competition, but the gamer in me mostly wouldn't give a fuck and would enjoy a return to the PS1/N64 duopoly days.
-
Thinking about it he's basically the only one they could put in Smash except Rare's stuff. :lol
-
I guess it'd be good for MS as an extra revenue stream, because there is no way they wouldn't still release their tentpole games on multiple platforms. If they go MS exclusivr, the revenue from those games wouldn't cover the budgets.
-
And if that doomsday scenario comes to fruition, it would just galvanize the competition to fill EA's niche on other platforms. This move would really hurt EA than anything, imo.
-
All those IP's will just become Minecraft versions now...
Minecraft Effect
Dragoncraft Age
Maddencraft
:doge
-
company who's shit i dont care for buys company who's shit i dont care for :idont

Pretty much how I feel lol.
-
Is EA in dire-straits or something? I dunno why EA would need a purchase.
-

FTFY. And BF4 is only because EA had to fix the massive fuck-up of a launch and actually supported the goddamn thing for two-three years.
This latest entry in the series? Died on the vine, and EA is close to cancelling their "year of support" (which is actually going on 2 years now) of DLC that was supposed to be like 5 DLC packs in the past, but is only like 2-3 now.

So basically the Lego franchise but uglier
-
If MS were really looking to acquire a big publisher to bolster their first party output that makes sense for their player base i'm kinda surprised it's not Bethesda. Not sure how that would work out with Zenimax, though.
Zenimax is just an umbrella for the different studios operating under it, it's not significantly separate from Bethesda that somebody could buy one without the other. It's also privately owned by a very small group of investors, so it wouldn't be as easy to buy as EA [which has over 93% of it's stock owned by outside parties]. Which is not to say that it couldn't happen, but they'd have to either make a really great pitch or offer up a ton of money, and in the case of the former they don't have a good pitch since Bethesda does as well as it does by releasing their games on every system available.

:confused
We talking about BF1? There's going to be 4 in total, 3 have already been released. It isn't the 5 packs of 3/4 but cancelling things? C'mon son
It isn't hard to google these things. Died on the vine? Titanfall 2 died on the vine
-
If Microsoft bought EA, theyd get Respawn Entertaiment, right?
Halo could use Respawn.
-
Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Go check the CTE subreddit. DICE-LA has given up on the game. There's barely anything going on. I highly doubt the 4th will happen. If it does, great. But it was a complete waste of my money and time. I could've just stuck with BF4 which like 90% of the PC base did.

good, let it all burn
-
Match made in heaven of publishers merciless to their studios...
Wouldn't buying EA be incredibly, stupidly expensive though ?
-
Match made in heaven of publishers merciless to their studios...
If we bothered to look up how many studios Sony has axed, it would eclipse Microsoft I feel. Microsoft playing it safe and their IPs being boring? That's valid criticism. Microsoft being considered a grindhouse like EA? Makes zero sense to me.
I could be misinterpreting what youre saying.
-
Lol M$ would Rareware EA :doge
-
So now EA can eventually be taken out back and shot in the head? This feels like karmic justice to me.
:shaq

Yeah my joke relied on MS reputation quite a few years ago, around the time of GFWL maybe ? Not sure it holds true today.

The big cancelations or closures I can think of are Lionhead, Phantom Dust, Scalebound, probably many Rare projects, Crackdown 3 being in some weird development hell.
-
:lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol
EA's market cap is like $30B.
I somehow doubt MS investors would be all giddy about blowing that kind of amount on an acquisition after the metric fuckton of cash the Xbox division has already been bleeding.
-
Never happening

Thinking about it he's basically the only one they could put in Smash except Rare's stuff. :lol
You sure you don't want Vexx or Voodoo Vince? :P

company who's shit i dont care for buys company who's shit i dont care for :idont
Aside from the first 3 Mass Effect games (Jade Empire wasn't EA, right?), I don't think I've bought an EA game since NHL 95.

You should really try the first Mirror's Edge.
-
They're likely not going to buy EA, but they're definitely buying someone.
-
At this point, I think Valve would be too much for MS.
May try to acquire a smaller pub, or some IPs.
It seems the company as a whole is putting less focus on XBOX in particular, and more towards building an ecosystem. Considering the whole point of the original XBOX was to prevent Sony from owning the living room - while getting completely run over when mobile came along - I think they'll be more conservative and just try to get as much of their stuff on as many things as possible.
-
Yep but goddamn sports games have been spinning their wheels for so long(specifically in soccer, football and baseball) that I'd love a huge shakeup there.
As someone who plays Madden every year for hundreds of hours I disagree to an extent. But with 6 month dev cycles there is only so much they can do.
Also its weird I didn't hear shit about this rumor at work today.
-

Valve doesn't really make sense for MS if their goal is to bolster the Xbone's stable of exclusives in the next couple of years.
-
However, Valve does make sense in terms of service/platform-building that MS has been focusing on under Nadella.
-
I don't see Newell selling out Valve to MS.

Me either. He really loves his autonomy.

I literally LOL'd.
Yeah, I suspect there are a lot of ex-Bullfrog, ex-Westwood, ex-Maxis, etc. who would get a good chuckle out of it.

Actually, I did play that... oh yeah, forgot about it :P
A flawed but unique game.
-
Hey, PvZ:GW is also a great game.
Sequel kinda sucked tbh
-
Doesn’t really make sense with the way MS is going.
But not sure is care either way
-

Yeah, sequel had a lot of weird decisions made. The original was elegant and fun.
-
I liked the more streamlined gameplay of BF1, but they really should have just gone back to WW2 if they were bent on going retro. They were really reaching with some of those "WWI" weapons and vehicles. And they totally misread people's lack of enthusiasm for season passes nowadays (then taking forever to deliver maps helped exactly 0%).
-
Not sure MS can get that sort of heavy duty investment past their shareholders.
Oh well. If it happens, it happens. Not like it'll affect me.
Some people will splooge their pants at the thought of EA Access and Game Pass merging together, though.

honestly i was hoping they were setting up for revisiting WW2 next and that they straight up called it Battlefield 2 like the original didn't exist
but i wonder if CoD stepped in the way

NFL 2K5 is my favorite sports sim of all time and I still haven't played a football game since because of that EA deal. That's why I'd love for license shenanigans to happen to I can get my 2K back.
2k Stans :goty2
People who blame EA for the NFL's choice :beli
It's 2018, I can't believe these things still exist.
-
2k1 for the Dreamcast is one of my fondest memories of gaming. Being able to play your classmates and then talk shit to them at school the next day was some truly revolutionary shit back in the day. I gave even less of a shit about football then than I do now and still had a blast with the multiplayer.
-
not being a football nut i think i sorta liked the more arcadey yet still sim vibes of 2K1-2K3 than where the series started to head, though it was still fun (and full of endless content AND A POLYGONAL CHRIS BERMAN) and never as clinical as Madden, though i haven't played a Madden since 08 i had for years
2K very quickly captured the "feel" of grinding out yards up the field over the course of an extended drive that was compelling due to the animations and how the players interacted, while Madden spent five years or more having robotic models that would hold in positions while engaging in nonsensical collision
never blamed EA though, the NFL offered exclusivity to multiple parties, even if they probably preferred the Madden brand/relationship and were very much not pleased with 2K's $20 price move that EA dropped to $40 to compete with
one thing we can thank David Stern for, he didn't see the point of exclusivity like the NFL and MLB wanted so bad, the more licenses the merrier...though EA sorta wound up giving 2K a defacto monopoly
-
quarterback club still the goat
-
Honestly haven’t cared about a football game since Blitz on the 64, so
-
It would make more sense for them to buy and reverse merger into Sega: A ton of IP, a history that they don't currently have, (slightly) more credibility in Asia, a viable mascot that isn't fucking master chief. In addition, the vast majority of Sega coin-ops would make excellent reboot candidates.
-
That fits. I remember one of the early Xbox memes was that it was the new Dreamcast or some shit.
-
Xbox got all the cool Sega games that gen. Meanwhile, all the Sonic trash got ported to the Gamecube, along with Billy Hatcher.
-
Please no, I don't wanna get an Xbox to play my Atlus shit
-
Whatever they end up buying,
