at least star wars going to shit can be blamed on disney taking control and milking the franchise to shit. what's the excuse for cloverfield paradox? how does something like that get made with a big budget?
Rogue One was dope.In this timeline, yes :doge
Was Cloverfield Paradox bad?

It's just special effects and nostalgia that made people think otherwise.

Cloverfield Paradox wasn’t directed by a white male.
Oh didney, didney why? :noahI'll fly over with my iphone and we can shoot some scenes :rashspoiler (click to show/hide)I’ve been kicking around the idea about making my own sci-fantasy space opera since it’s crystal clear that Disney is going to milk Star Wars into oblivion.[close]
i grew up thinking star wars was kind of boring and overrated. now that nerds are railing against it and crying about "Social Studies Warriors" ruining it or whatever, i feel compelled to hype the movies up and shit on those bitter geeks
Force Awakens was some boring McDonald's movie making. Abrams is the king of bland pastiche. I remember enjoying Rogue One, Ben Mendelsohn ruled... But TLJ is by far the most interesting (probably of all Star Wars movies for me). I have a number of gripes with it;but the good easily outweighed the few times i groaned. og Star War trilogy is still top tier camp 70/80s sci fi, shit is dated af and yes i grew up re-watching one of them most weekends, that's the point. Dismissing their quality and retroactively trolling coz ur growed up now is nearly as embarrassing as adults that still obsess over them.spoiler (click to show/hide)Canto Bight was a mistake, I wish they didn't redeem Poe Dameron and he remained a dumb asshole, so many clanger jokes :doge[close]
side note: I particularly enjoy how TLJ freaked out canon losers.
FYI gonna merge this thread into the Star Wars thread soon.
One shitty Star War thread is enough, thx.
I was excited about it in the early 90s. It was one of those Xmas traditions that they’d show the entire trilogy on some cable channel. Maybe USA. Then the big VHS set came out and I had them and I could watch them whenever I wanted, and I did.I remember going to Attack of the Clones and thinking they must have fixed this, the first movie was just setting up and coming out thinking that it was one of the biggest pieces of shit I've ever seen. I still can't believe Phantom Menace was the best prequel by miles.
I was mostly over it by the time the prequels rolled around, but it was still a big event when the first one came out. A bunch of my friends cut school to see it. Never have I left a movie theater feeling more confused, trying to map the memories of my love of the originals with th mess I had just seen. It was like figuring out I was gay again for the first time.
After that I stopped caring. I didn’t see AotC in theaters and I only saw RotS because it was a work event.
I was interested by the Diznee purchase since they’d shown such consistent quality with the MCU flicks. I’m losing interest now as it becomes evident that there’s not really that much meat left on the franchise to do anything truly exciting.
It’ll be a very rough graphic novel at first (I’ll have my brother help with the plot and dialogue since he’s a writer).
Then it’ll be something he and I will improve upon over the years until its something I’m not embarrassed to put my name on. :doge
edit: and I’d be fine if it never became a film. That would probably be for the best, tbh.
Pssh. I’m not doing it to make other people happy. Now you're thinking like George Lucas.
It’s for my own smug amusement. :snob
And if certain individuals find it entertaining or not that’s on them.

watch this. it's the mos eisley/cantina scene with the soundtrack ripped out.
ignore all the special edition bollocks and tell me that isn't a wonderfully crafted bit of film making. if you were told that was david lean's take on sci fi, you'd believe it in a second.
fuck all comparison with the marvel shit they're putting out now.

Same. I remember going into AotC thinking, "ok, no more child Anakin, no more endless political maneuvering, and way less Jar-Jar. This is gonna be better!"
