I'm here chillin with my sample of Tom Fords 'Tuscan Leather' wafting around me and was curious what the bore wears. Or do y'all prefer your natural scent aka bo with rapidly fading Irish spring?
My most expensive bottle is Chanel 'Sycomore'. A cool $180 for 75ml just to smell like crisp autumn leaves and campfires.

Basically the budget version of the real thing. Smells great but the fragrance doesn't last as long.
-
My own filth.
Should layer that with Sécrétions Magnifiques by Etat Libre d'Orange

Always cool to find out about copies like this. Being cheap just means you can pile it on if you want.

Ive heard good things about Givenchys 'Pi'. Supposed to be one of the better vanilla scents out there. I need to get a sample of that.
-
Pi is a good vanilla/spice/sandalwood style scent that lasts long without ever being too strong. The spice side dies off, but the vanilla hangs on the skin so if somebody is close they smell it.
-
My equivalent to that is YSL Opium pour Homme. Its a bit powdery though but I really dig the contrast of sweet and spicy. It can be cloying in hotter weather. I gassed people out once thinking two sprays was ok in 90° weather close quarters
-
Yeah, Opium is another good option with more of a spice scent. It's got a little more nostril burn to it.
-
The smell of your asshole on her strap on? :holeup
yep. Hazelnut.
-
I have three different samples coming in on Monday
Heeley - Sel Marin (aquatic, ocean salt vibe)
Etat Libre D'Orange - You or Someone Like You (cool natural mint)
A Lab On Fire - California Snow EdP (herbal green, musk)
Looking into a Summer scent at the moment. Something unique.
-
Montale Black Aoud for cold days and Lalique Encre Noire for warmer days.
I'm running out of both bottles and need to buy some new shit soon though
-
Encre Noir is fantastic in the Fall too. Got compliments from it on a windy cool night. Something about vetiver that I love. Has a certain depth. Plus its such an unconventional smell in Encre Noir. To describe a scent as a color it truly is black, or somewhere near it.

D'oh, I was talking about Encore Noir Sport. Despite the name it doesn't smell sporty at all, it has just the right amount of grapefruit to not be overwhelming in summer. I had a bottle of Encore Noir but I used it up. I loved it, it's unique without being offputting. I need to get a new bottle but I'm broke lol
-
Milk and cheetos dust. A classic.

I steal the scratch and sniff pages out of fashion magazines and quickly rub them all over my pulse points
-
Chanel 28 la pausa in spring, Chanel sycamore in fall/winter. Summer needs a refresh will prob be either the different company Tokyo bloom or Tom daxon salvia sclarea. Or possibly Chanel bel respiro for brand synergy points. :doge

Pretty much my goat and I should probably get the huge 6.8oz bottle but I dunno if I can commit like that
(https://i.imgur.com/X8xZKRY.jpg)
-
One spray of Sycomore did me good yesterday. Kept getting wafts of it. A 6.8oz bottle would probably last a freaking decade lol unless its used as a signature scent.
I put in an order on a bottle of Al Wisam Day Rasasi. Its supposed to be a clone of Creeds Silver Mountain Water which I loved when I first smelled it. Not wanting to commit to a $200+ bottle of a Creed that doesnt seem to have staying power i was hyped to hear the Al Wisam is like 95% of the Creed.

True plus it’s too big for carryon... but my smell experimentation is pretty much done for, the only one that I yearn for now is Serge Lutens iris silver mist, which has some traveler spritzers and an annoying cloche if you want a decent amount of the stuff >:(

Work related stress, black coffee, and some old spice after hours deodorant.
-
oh if you're looking for an interesting summer scent maybe consider serge lutens filles en aiguilles.... people tend to associate the fruity pine notes with christmas but it truly does smell like wandering in the pacific northwest on summer vacation. I quite like it.
also maybe something from tauer, like l'air du desert marocain or incense extreme. CDG odeur 71 is a wild one, but it's also quite energizing in the heat.
-

read this is the stuff al davis used. I have to get me some now, hope it's good.
CHANEL ANTANEUS is lean, lithe and potent—just like its Greek hero namesake. It is the most powerful, long-lasting form of men's fragrance that gives you an unmistakably masculine presence, day and night.
:rejoice
“Al Davis wanted these walls to be glass,” he says, “so he could see that you were working. He always wore this cologne—a lot of it—and you could smell him before he got to you. ‘He’s coming this way!’ I’m still expecting to smell it sometimes.”
:rejoice :rejoice

So the sample I got of A Lab on Fire - California Snow is really making me consider it. It stays as this very vibrant green note for most of its sillage giving life then dries down to a very clean soapy smell. Laid some on the back of mynhand last night and its still a skin scent 10 hours later.
-
Been using Acqua Di Gio for about 10 years now.
Maybe I'll switch it up next time with someone posted here.
I do like milk and cheetos

That Serge Lutens sounds amazing. I do gravitate towards the darker fragrances and that one seems to have a mixture of nature and smoke.
-
If you want dark try Mississippi Medicine by ds&durga, smells like an evil forest; cowboy grass is another good choice tho that’s more of a day old grassfire.
Serge is a good one to dig into as his fragrances are pretty unique, especially the exclusive ones, which are worth a decant for the curious. De profundis is super feminine but also a photoreal solitary flower lit by moonlight. Truly. Amazing trick.
-

They also do some wild dank stuff.
-
Damnit, gonna order more samples now lol. Finding THE fragrance truly is a journey. Currently have Narciso Rodriguez, DSquared He Wood, and Gallagher Bergamust coming in. The Narciso in particular sounds interesting. Supposed tonhave that wet concrete, stormy weather vibe.
Really into what I'm reading from the Mississippi Medicine though. And a couple of frags from that house, like Pale Grey Mountain, Small Black Lake, and Bitter Rose, Broken Spear.
-
forgot to mention cdg zagorsk, which is my favorite of the incense series.

That actually has a good rating on Fragrantica lol classified as Aromatic Fougere
A sample of Gallagher Bergamund came in and its one of the cleanest musky citrus scents I've smelled. Definitely a top contender for my summer cologne.

How do you learn about this stuff? Other than gifts, I've never gotten any because I had no idea what to look for.

Best method: go to sephora/better Nordstrom or higher tier dept store, find all their better shit (will prob be stuff on a back ‘niche’ wall or in their own little stall ie annick goutal, Tom ford private label, diptyque, hermes, jo Malone etc)... reason I suggest them is they tend to focus on one or a few primary, costlier notes w/ some background music vs a large number of accords that may be hard to identify. Smell a bunch via little spray cards, narrow down a few that strike your fancy and ask for samples (if they’re not giving samples then the store is trash for frag discovery purposes... they should be able to decant from the bottle).
A little research on Fragrantica at home afterward etc and you’ll see a tendency for notes and styles pretty quickly.. from there it’s a black hole of time and madman sampling unti you burn out or find your lane.
For myself it’s pretty much dry orris, incense/resin, cedars/wood, grass, and mild leather or musk notes. If it’s an orris/iris led fragrance chances are I’ve smelled it.
-

just go to a store, kill an hour and get what you like (or see if they have samples so you can try and come back). protip: use a palette cleanser.
also never really hurts to actually talk to someone that works there, it's a crapshoot, but some people are really great at their job and can make finding similar fragrances a lot easier.

Chanel don’t play, even with samples :doge

I personally started by ordering samples of various fragrances in different categories. You can get samples for $4 a pop for 1.5ml vials. Actually going to a store is def a cost saving way of doing it. Point is to find out what fits the vibe you want.
You'll eventually get a sense of which category of fragrance youre into and focus on this even further. Depending on how into frags you are you'll either stop at really good designer frags that suit you for multiple seasons or move on to niche stuff that are more expensive but further explore certain scents, even getting a little weird and unique.
Fragrantica is definitely a good resource. You'll see the category breakdown and what fragrances the community finds worth your purchase. Its my goto site to look for a certain notr that I want, see what the community finds worth a purchase, and buy a sample.

Well if it makes you feel better all the DS & Durga fragrances I’ve tried (~5) are bombs to the point that 1/2 spray is probably ideal. Cowboy grass in particular.
-
Yeah you basically have to spend a trip to the cologne section of a quality department store. Nordstrom's or Macy's if that's the best in the area.
You'll smell like a gay bar afterwards.
-
Took a shower before I went into work today and gave myself a good spritz of Heeleys Sel Marin and gawdamn. The spicy fresh vibe just enveloped me like a cloud. Knowing you smell a particular way that you personally enjoy adds another dimension to how youre able to present yourself to the world.

Yeah and ive figured 1ml of juice is probably around 5 sprays. 50 to 100ml can last a good while, even as a daily scent.
-
my body hair absorbs so much of smell that i don't need any fragrance other than dove bodywatch. supposedly you can smell me as i enter a room
blessed

Just found out about the House of Rasasi. Sub $100 clones of $200-$300 fragrances.
Me right now

My grandpa always smelt like those strong vetiver scents. dem memories. I like Chanel Sycomore coz it's a little more subtle and fresh than others I've tried in that vein.
Quite liked Encre Noir, not quite for me, but my bro is pretty masc so I bought him a bottle for his bday.

Just put in an order on samples for
D.S. & Durga Mississippi Medicine
Profumum Roma Arso
Maison Martin Margiela Jazz Club
All cooler weather scents
Currently have a sample of Parfums De Marley Herod on and gawdamnit its so good. It exudes warmth, sweetness, and sensuality.
-
This winter im using Bottega Venetas Pour Homme. Smells like a spicy leather daddy in the forest.
-
I should get a nice leather scent. The only two ones ive tried were Histories de Parfum 1740 Marquis de Sade which was amazing in the opening but dried down way too sweet for me. The other being Tom Ford's Tuscan Leather which smells haaaamazing.
-
I went to an outlet store and spent a long time going through their collection 'til I settled on that. Also, a woman I'm seeing uses that Parfums De Marley Herod you have lol. Not as masc as I imagined. Nice light, spicy sweet tobacco scent.

Yeah De Marleys Layton is more masculine and brighter. It would be between those two down the line. Love their bottle designs too

Piss, shit and whisky with a faint smell of Latinx appropriation. (I had burritos today)

Tried this and ordered a bottle. It seemed to last roughly a working day for me.
A friend gave me this over the weekend. A Le Labo sampler. He complained about something to them abd they sent it in return. I’ll report back on these once I have a chance to sample them.

Was looking for a present and found a local place that sells Demeter fragrances. That Pizza edt is pretty fuckin incredible.
Also tried on Aesop's "Hwyl", very nice on the dry down. Opens incredibly smoky like an earthy, spicy ashtray kinda like Creed Viking. A bit tioo much for me. But dries down to something im really digging. A dark, dank cousin to Chanel's Sycomore, apparently quite similar to CdG Kyoto.
-
Don’t sleep on the cdg incense series. Zagorsk is godly.
-
ima try get some samplers
-
I bought a 6ml decant of Parfum de Marleys "Layton". Should last me little over a month of daily spraying. Will essentially be my Fall signature scent. Here are the notes...
(https://abload.de/img/capture_2018-09-10-17undso.png) (https://abload.de/image.php?img=capture_2018-09-10-17undso.png)
It walks the line between the opulence of an oriental but with a nice clean vibe.
-
Busted out my Chanel Sycomore for the past two days. Man, its the one frag I have that really lifts my mood and makes me feel like a million bucks.
-
Wandered into the local Nordstrom; tried some of the new jo Malone English oak series that released last year... nice enough but like all jo Malone’s they open with some interesting ideas but settle into a nice and kinda bland fog. Cool if you want to smell ‘nice’ but for the price tier I’d rather get something a little more off the path. Of course the sales peeps always throw out the ‘the fragrances are meant to be layered’ which I think is nonsense.
Then again most dept store offerings are kind of unremarkable, so it fits.
Also I’ve run out of Chanel 28 la pausa; and the rework they’ve done is good and all but NOT THE SAME. Now I need to find a posh asexual sorta gay white sheet clean orris that isn’t sweet or overly feminine.. Not an easy find brehs. 😪
-
Bought this one last week
