in general, art is good or bad
-
We’re not doing your book report on The Picture of Dorian Gray for you, asshole. Reqd the goddamned book. It’s a fuckin’ classic.
-
I've been struggling with this lately. Does being creative qualify you as an artist? Is art inherently exploitative?
-
kind of both i guess? i don't really expect mad srs answers from folks here but i'm genuinely interested in the answers ppl could provide if they're so inclined
-
the artist themselves, given how patronage has worked for centuries
-
You’ve clearly never listened to Jandek.
-
jandek? idkh do you mean zombie
-
An interesting variation of this question is "Do people produce morally good art anymore?"
Does the intent of the artist matter if the value and questions it poses is derived by the viewer?
-
"Art as an endeavor exists independently of the monetary pursuit."
lololololiberterianism

Jesus, all of you distinguished mentally-challenged fellows need to do a book report on The Picture of Dorian Gray.

Shut up nerd. Sorry shosta that was an easy shot, it's just with these soundcloud kids and all I wonder if people are making art to actually express themselves or for a sponsorship sometimes

I mean there's for sure people that take an artistic medium and produce artifacts thereof for the express purpose of monetization, how you feel about said endeavours probably has more to do with it than the artist's intent though, as you can derive meaning from even Rebecca Black crap. Conversely there's a ton of artistry in Prince's music but he essentially did it for the $$. :idont
If we ever get to a Star Trek world and people dont need money (and arent huge attention whores) and we still get people doing the future version of crappy soundcloud art we'll probably have a lot more to work with. That being said I wanna be dead before I see a naked Ferengi.

Art is only as good as the people who appreciate it
-
Art is the only thing worth a damn in this world. Even it is mostly trash.

Learning about yourself and what's around you is entertaining for some. Philosophy can be entertaining. Music is entertaining. The same can be said about any piece of art.
To me, there isn't a objective difference between a cartoon and a painting from 1455. The end result is entertainment regardless. The cultural and historical ties that painting has are real, but thinking about all that and interpreting that painting is still entertainment.
Since art as a concept doesn't really differentiate from being a form of entertaiment, art is stinky poopoo trash.

More like the Picture of Dorian Gay.

We are here to create.
Art is just an aspect of that impulse.

I liked the sequel. 50 Shades of Gray.
Why's the dude even need that many sunglasses. Probably couldn't stand looking at his picture anymore. It's a social commentary on selfie-culture. This guy is Wilde!
