Someone punch Zuckerfuck in the face. That piece of shit. Facebook may be one of the worst things ever created. There is absolutely no good that comes from it, at all. Zuckerberg and his employees are a bunch of cunts.
-they rip your information
-they give your personal profile away to ad companies and marketers to follow you
-they are used as a platform for political and cultural manipulation
-they cause depression
The list can go on. On top of it all it's a platform filled with the worst of the worst where people only share their bullshit. Rarely anything interesting is shared on the platform.
Oh, and let's not even start on their nonexistent support. You have an issue? Yeah, good luck waiting for one of their "community mangers" to respond to you, which then is usually an automated message. This company is one of the biggest on the planet and they don't even have live chat support?
It's time this fucking company burn. I've been off it for 3 years now, but i had to come back to it to resolve a deceased family members profile (what agony dealing with this process). Fuck this company. Fuck Zuckerberg.
GET OFF FACEBOOK.

True, but WhatsApp sucks anyways.

It makes so much sense that Assimilate just got to 2014
I was never big on facebook dip shit, and i signed up immediately when it came to my university, circa 2004-2005. I never really liked it, but i never imagined how detrimental it would be.

The problem with the "#DeleteFacebook" campaign is that there is SO MANY THINGS that require their login (like Tindr until recently) that it's very hard to not have an account.
Until you force others to drop the API (which they ain't doing because lol ad money lol profiles lol ), it's very hard to drop the account AND not lose other things that are tied to the account.

i thought this and for the first few months off it i'd occasionally reactivate it by accident via some site i'd logged into via FB instead of google or making a new account, but it's been smooth sailing for the most part. just a few more logins than i'd have if i used facebook

No, don't get me wrong. It's possible (AFAIK Tindr finally allows e-mails when it was Facebook only) the problem is: You need to delete your account on those, remake them, etc. It's just a complete hassle plus there is still some sites that are strictly Facebook or bust.

Fuck facebook. Delete that shit.

You can just use your number to log into tinder.
See, The Brow knows what's up.

I don't know about sites, but mobile games off the top of my head: PUBG (which has backlash over it and AFAIK is in the process of doing other logins), being a notable example of one that wants Facebook to save your account information on THEIR servers for god knows what reason.
You can just use your number to log into tinder.
Right, but that wasn't a case over a year ago.

If you were signing in with FB to begin with you're a colossal moron...

Pubg doesnt need facebook
I play pubg
I deleted my facebook like 3 years ago
So far you named two things that are not correct
-
Yeah Fb fucking sux but it's handy for keeping up with family. :yeshrug
-
i'll stick around for the group chats and the likes. i use the ghetto ass facebook login for random sites soemtimes because idgaf. i fully agree though, facebook is a giant shitpile. ugly af, loads of tech debt and old ux/ui crap. but it's still the largest shitpile, so i kinda like that. the networking site we deserve.
-
thefacebook lost its way when it moved away from its primary core focus: stalking people in your college classes
-
to share my version: i left up a basic account with contact info (phone #, gmail, etc.) viewable only to my friends for like five years or some shit just in case someone i hadn't talked to in a while ever needed them (like if they needed to play some DoD just like in HS but everyone else had foolishly not kept it installed), then they started those e-mails reminding me of ALL THAT I'M MISSING and no matter how many times i turned it off, they turned it back on, that i deleted my account a couple years ago or so
at least they let you do that now, or at least say they do (and let you download an account backup file), i remember when they would only let you "disable" the account if it was beyond so many months old... though i think they did admit that was due to poor database design over the years
-
AIM and MSN Messenger shutting down were sadder days for me than if Facebook ever did
i realized there was no point to even have pidgin installed anymore a few weeks ago, the few people who had moved to XMPP over the years i already had been talking to through Steam for years anyway

That's why you use your university email that gets deactivated after you leave school to register your Faceyb. I get all the dead drop pros and none of the incessant notification cons. :jawalrus
Also none of the notification pros, but that's not germane to this discussion. :pitbull
-
My university (that I went to school at) "never" deactivates your e-mail, it's a benefit of being an alumni they claim! And I had a number of other things tied to it (mostly stuff like free software licenses for being a student/academic/etc. especially since a lot of those just check the .edu part) that I checked it every six months to delete all the Facebook notices, the department listservs nobody ever took me off, etc.
It's what my facebook account was tied to because back in MY DAY you had to be a member of a listed university to even join thefacebook and then they let all the unwashed lower classes in progressively.

i don't have any money, only Steam keys :ufup
-
i really should have been more suspicious when the Kochs eagerly agreed to the contract terms paying me in Steam keys/bundles
-
My problem is my friends are basically all over the world now. W
Ive come to the conclusion if people dont want to share more personally in direct messages then maybe our friendship is done for now and I really dont feel like "keeping in touch" by mutual likes and comments on holiday pictures.
It's all just mind clutter.
-
AIM
damn you for opening old wounds benji
-
Facebook bore group annihilated
always exciting when I get the notification that someone posted in there every six months
-
AIM was tight, hope all my friends liked my yellow font on a red background in impact bold
-
FB free for 10 years. :aah
-
"Mind clutter" is an apt description of FB.
I'll likely never be able to #deletefacebook, but I barely use it a few times a week these days. Mostly sharing Google Photos albums for family. I uninstalled the FB app a few months ago and it hasn't impacted me at all. Really all I do these days is post photos (many just cross-posted from Instagram) and check the likes/comments on those photos. But even that psychological treadmill is running its course.
Been weening myself off Messenger pretty slowly, and might be able to ditch it soon. Really hoping for RCS to fill in some of the gaps in SMS. This is mostly Google's fault, if they had their shit together on messaging then I probably would never have started using Messenger as much as I had.
It'll probably be another 5-10 years before I feel comfortable deleting my Insta though. Deleted Snapchat for it. :(

I thought TIMU was ghey, and yet he’s on Tinder like a filthy breeder.
Grindr for life!

I use Facebook as a means of letting people know that I'm still alive and functioning like a semi-normal person.
Also, the same reason I keep posting on The Bore.
-
Finally got through to a higher up and they removed my dads page.
I still hope the company burns to the ground.

I really shouldn't be posting on the bore then.

I started the long process of removing myself from Facebook and it's not an easy task. A lot of connected login credentials that I used with Facebook don't have tools in place to seperate from Facebook entirely. I'm now faced with some decisions about how important my use of other sites is as it compares to Facebook and their policies and data tracking. I'm kind of glad Apple of all people realized this and announce at WWDC that Safari will be blocking like buttons and other tracker tools, now if only Google would follow suit.
-

:crowdlaff
(I mean I agree, but fat chance.)
Though Chrome has made some interesting moves lately, such as the ad blocker. So who knows.

some of you keep saying this but i've never come across this problem. What sites only allow facebook logins???
-
It's not just sites that only offered Facebook as a login, but some that you linked to Facebook that you can't unlink. Spotify in particularly being a pain in the ass about this even though they have their own tools to limit Facebook data. Thing is if you were to delete the connected Facebook account it disables the Spotify login entirely and thus all the music data I've accumulated over the years. Imgur is another such example but with Google login and unlinking Facebook from that account. Google allows you to delete it, but Imgur won't for whatever reason. At least there they were nice enough to migrate just my Imgur data to a new login since they no longer use Google login.
-
I almost never use Facebook. Almost none of my friends and family use it either. In my experience, people eventually get bored of Facebook after a couple years, especially when they realize that it means jack shit to have 1,500 friends, maybe 20% of them you actually know at best. I keep my account around for the once in a blue moon instance where someone posts something worth reading.
-
I used to be of the mind "Only add your closest IRL friends on Facebook."
However that changed once I started producing some short films. Facebook is a great self-advertising platform. If I add 1500 friends and one of them happens to know someone in Hollywood, then it's all worth it. :idont
I don't really "actively" use it at all anymore though.
-
I like the cute animal vids
-
I only ever created a FB login to chat with one rather elusive rl friend, and I did it with a freemail throwaway account. Like a good little kiddo I deleted the account six months later when I noticed that it wasn't worth the hassle.
Especially since that friend now is married with kids and can't run away anymore. If I can't reach him, I just send a whatsapp to his wifey, and she curbstomps his sorry ass until he gets on the phone with me. Problem solved.
So, I don't get what the hubbub is all about. FB never had any hold on me, and I wasn't stupid enough to ever "connect" another account to facebook. Why anyone ever thought that was a good idea eludes me. Isn't one of THE advantages of this here online thing that you can burn and set up a new account on any service on this web net thingamabob, within a few minutes, at no cost? Why throw that away.

Ass revealed the true reason why he hates Facebook so much in the other thread: He is constantly horny and wanting to fuck but with no outlet he stalks women he used to know on facebook all day and it's ruining his life.
Somewhat accurate. There are some ex girlfriends on there that are still beautiful and also doing better than me in life that i end up seething with anger over my missed opportunity.
But Instagram is the true social media outlet that leaves you horny. That whole platform is an excuse for normal girls to post pics of their ass. There's no other reason for it. The guy that sold it to Facebook for 1 billion could have gotten a whole lot more for it.
-
Kevin Systrom definitely could have held out for more. They paid 22 times Instagram's price for WhatsApp and I'd hazard a guess that IG is making 22x more than WA right now.

Whatsapp is huge though. How many people does instagram have right now? Whatsapp is over a billion people using it.
I do believe Insta in the long run will be worth more. He definitely undersold.
But the worst ones were the two Youtube guys. Holy fuck did they get screwed. I think they did get some stock out of it though? right?
-
Instagram had 800 million users last year, so it may actually be at/close to a billion by now.
As for YouTube, what you have to keep in mind is that it was hemorrhaging money at the time of the Google sale (there's a reason no one had really cracked vides on the web at that point - only niche sites like Newgrounds, etc. existed), AND they were getting their asses sued off them by Viacom (with a couple other conglomerates licking their lips and waiting their turns.) In an alternate reality, YouTube became the Napster of video, burning brightly only to get sued out of existence shortly after. IMO Google's cash and ContentID are the only reasons YouTube is still around today.

The guy who calls everyone soft and brags about how much of a big bad ass he is admits to being the kind of weirdo pussy who cyber stalks women from years ago and gets ANGRY because their lives didn't get destroyed when he wasn't apart of it, to the point of demanding everyone get rid of the platform he uses to do his furious cyber stalking because he has no will power to log out.

Kind of cool that the guy behind the Free Darko blog is now in the Congressional record.
