Title: So I saw Pan's Labryinth and Pursuit of Happyness
Post by: Mupepe on January 28, 2007, 11:46:17 PM
I actually loved PL.  Something really different and just interesting.  I like the fact that the fantasy aspect was so well integrated in the movie and didn't take the main stage.  Just really entertaining.  Sorry, Cajole.

Pursuit of Happyness was a really well done, but forgettable film.  I didn't really feel much emotion at all throughout the movie, but it was really well done.  Will Smith did an excellent job.

I'll most likely buy PL when it comes out, but not PoH.

What did you guys think?

It's a beautiful movie in every aspect. From the music to the costume design - everything works to bring the viewer into the movie even more.

Best movie soundtrack I've heard in a long time

I still need to catch PL, but will probably wait for the DVD.

Pretty disappointed the fantasy aspect wasn't particularly creative.

The soundtrack was awesome.  And I loved the costume of the Faun.  The voice was fucking perfect too.  The whole cast was perfect.

Never heard of it.  Tell me about it.

Dude, go see PL.  So worth it.

and I didn't pay to see PoH.  We were walking out of PL and my date said "ooh, I want to see that!"  and I said "Well, we've only missed 16 minutes, do you really want to see it?"  She said yes, so I grabbed her hand and we walked in there.

I thought it could have gone a little more in depth, but I'm glad it wasn't the focus.  I think they did a pretty good job of not making you ask "but what about?"

The trailer was woefully uninteresting, and the film looks like a total "sappy working man going to work lol" mess.

Will Smith actually talks shit about it.  Happyness is written on the side of his kid's daycare and there are a few times during the movie that he says "and that stupid daycare with misspelled happiness on the wall"

You've seen pics of her.  She's actually an ex.  Remember when we first started talking on GAF and I sent you pics of the hispanic girl?  Her again.

And I never go to the movies alone.  It makes me feel pathetic  :(

I prefer going alone to the theater. However, when there's a special event, such as Thursday night's midnight Troll 2 (w/ cast appearances) screening, I like to be with friends.

So anyway, rent Mirrormask Mupepe. The story is pretty 'storybook' Nothing twisted or deep, but the imagery and music are awesome.

The day I go alone to a movie is the day I drink a gallon of bleach.

Truth.

The best thing about going to the theater, besides seeing a film on release and getting some old fashioned Death Corn, is experiencing a film with a buddy of yours. Friends > lonliness.

Mirrormask looked like something that was made specifically for the Hallmark Channel. The substandard visuals went along with the substandard story.

Although, it was nowhere near the letdown that was Tideland.

well I have a few friends that I CANNOT see a movie with.  Jesus, talkers and shit.  I don't mind a comment here and there.  But I hate people who can't keep their fucking mouth shut throughout the entire movie.  I want to stab them in the neck.  And then I honestly hate going to movies with girls that just like to make out.  Sorry, bitch.  We can make out anytime.  I spent 9 bucks to see this.

Enjoy Bell: Its more about ME being ok with it. I dont really enjoy a movie alone in a theater cause there's no one to bounce anything off of which is half the fun of going to the movies.

You just end up sitting there with a sub-standard experience while some shitheel knocks the back of your seat and the person with the big hair in front of you constantly adjusts in their seat.

Distant: well you like that Arcade Fire crap so what can ya do lol

This too.  It's magnified 100000x if it's a shitty movie.

Hell, my favorite person to go to the movies with is my mother -- she never talks about the movie DURING the movie, and she has awesome taste for an older chick. rawk.

There's nothing wrong with going alone. Certain movies are best seen alone imo. I saw Amistad a couple years ago in the theater; it's been out on DVD for a long time but there was a special screening downtown once. That's not the kind of movie you take a gang to see lol.

I've had a blast seeing other movies wth friends though. I'm pretty sure I've posted about my adventures skipping school to see LOTR and Spiderman movies with friends. A buddy slipped an xtra large pizza into the theater for Spiderman 2...in his pants lol.

omg, get off the drugs, bacon.

And PD, I mostly like to see movies with one other person.  I never go with a group of friends except for a few select movies (the lotr movies for example).  If it's a movie I've been looking forward to, I usually think about who would be a good person to take based on what I know they like.

Wait... PD, you have friends?

Not many around me any more. But my female friend(s) make me feel good about myself now

There was a time when seeing LOTR at the end of the year was a higher priority for me than Christmas lol. We had so much fun seeing the movies over and over again, and having faux adventures at the theater.

But I'd say the absolute best time I've ever had at a theater was the midnight, opening day showing of Revenge of the Sith. I've never witnessed anything that crazy - or hilarious :lol
