Format wars in 2018?

Isnt apple phone also pretty big nationally but pretty much shit on by galaxy and android world wide? :doge
Cupertino Stan.

That sounds like a serious advantage for Spotify, though a recent head-to-head battle involving Drake’s latest album, Scorpion, revealed some surprising differences. Overall, Apple Music scored 170 million streams of album tracks during the first week, while Spotify amassed an estimated 130 million.
The disparity strongly suggests that Apple is achieving far better user engagement, especially given Spotify’s extreme promotional push for the release. It also raises questions of just how ‘active’ Spotify’s 160 million active users are.
wow, so they might be fudging the numbers too?!? thanks drake for exposing this

Ew iTunes on PC, bloated nightmare. Also Drake is terrible and 40 million less listeners on Spergify mainly suggests its users have slightly less shitty taste.
-
What is there to celebrate about one of the big 4 beating the upstart?

Last I checked (a long term ago, mind) it was also bloated on Mac.

Does groove even exist anymore
It's dead, but might make a comeback with the new MS media initiative. I hope it stays dead and that they either kill their video platform or allow movies anywhere.
I just buy CD's and give everyone the middle finger. If I can't buy it on CD and make my own files from that I download it illegally.
-
I like lots of MS stuff but they should just let those initiatives die. just work on being a better AWS. and give me more features in office ios pls.
but physical media tho? :donot
Format wars in 2018?
trollz aside it's kind of interesting how I don't even think about formats anymore; it's completely transparent to me in 99% of cases.. it's all about services and app availability now. Ex I have zero idea what media format/extension anything in itunes/apple music/video is anymore. 6 years ago I would be at minimum cognizant of the bitrate, format, etc; 10 years ago I had to manage that piece. fast forward today it either runs on my shit or it's out of my field of view completely. It's kind of nice. lazy on my part and peak consumer, but nice.

Try to think of this as a sales thread and not a music enthusiast thread.

i listen to musical genres that haven't even been invented yet

I feel like toxic posted something about how people older than 30 never listen to new artists than what they’ve experienced
Spotify keeps shit fresh for me without actually having to know or search for stuff
-
I still find new shit and I'm a good ways past 30, other people are just lames.
-
It's never been easier to listen to new stuff. 90% of the time I wouldn't know what the current track is. Some of those platforms can be used as a radio with much less talking parts and commercial curating. Double so with electronic genres which often had poor representation, meager timeslots and barren shop sections.
-
I tend to avoid popular music stuff like Billboard playlists and radio. Which is probably why I couldn't name most top ten hits any given month.
Come fill my ass with loads while Bootsy slow jams play in the background. Music has objectively sucked for at least 20 years.

Shit thats like totally me. Spotify is no help for me in that regard since i dislike pop and hiphop and im over edm. Classical searches blow unless you know exactly what you want, numbering systems suck for recollection. You just get shit loads of individual albums. Somebody should do a kickstarter to rename important pieces

i can't imagine being in a car with a lebanese who isn't blasting edm or 80/90s trash

I just illegally download music like the old man I am.
I'm an old man too, but I'm still hep to the new ways. I find the song I want on YouTube and then rip the audio to MP3.
No more Bear Share for me!

A friend who runs a tech startup tried to argue his Apple Music preference (idgaf, but y'know, debates) is because they're more album focused whereas Spotify is more playlist focused, and requires more clicks to get to albums. Nearly every time i hang with him he's listening to the auto-generated iTunes Music playlists though. Appl drones :doge
-
I use play music 'cause it has a jank ass music sync client and YT PREMIUM*, but my mobile service provider jus gave me free spotify prem so i been back on that.
*Formerly Youtube Red :lol
