Title: NEETs
Post by: Atramental on September 01, 2018, 04:05:43 PM
Out of curiosity, who here has been a NEET or is a NEET as an adult?

Quote from: definition
NEET stands for 'Not in Education, Employment or Training'.

If you've ever been a NEET for longer than a span of 1 to 6 months I'm curious to know what your day-to-day life was like? Did you find it somewhat enjoyable or was it it's own unique type of hell?

It's a perspective I have no direct experience with since I've either been in school or work for most of my life.  :doge

edit: Also, feel free to post NEET related things.  :doge

Honestly? Pretty boring. The beurocracy of academia was too much for me to handle, otherwise I would've stayed in higher education. Apathy has always been my Achilles heel, and despite not having much I've never really wanted anything out of life, which is it's own kind of hell.

I just call it "between contracts". How it feels depends mostly on my bank account balance.

Not exactly a Neet but i was studying for two consecutive years for entrance exams. Suffice to say, i did not enjoy it and my existence was basically placed on hold both psychologically and materialistically before i got in. It's probably not a very good place to be if you actually have ambition but could be very fun if you just want to enjoy(probably possible only in welfare countries) life.

Naah, as soon as I graduated college I took like a week off and then started working full time after that. Apart from taking off one or two weeks between jobs, which doesn't count. I could totally see myself not getting bored if I didn't have to work full time, but with a house, a car, and fairly costly hobbies (travel, food, beer, gaming) that's not an option. But if I was a NEET, I'd probably go to the gym a bit more, do more physical activity in the summertime, and get much more involved in indie game development (along with playing a shit ton of my RPG backlog, of course).

not only have I never been NEET I've never in my life had any space of time where I wasn't either in school or employed that lasted more than 3 days since I graduated high school.

Hmm interesting. Maybe I should try this. Then again if I stop working so will 12 other people who won't get paid anymore.  :thinking

The longest off time I had (apart from being a baby) must've been between high school and my bachelor degree.
Which was about 2 months of playing video games, watching Dragon ball Z, partying and hanging out with my buddies.  :rejoice

The thing I regret most is not doing the same between finishing my bachelor and employment.
During my final internship I was told that I could 'stay' there so I had given up my part time job. Then like a week before it ended I was told that I could stay there but only on my intern salary for 3 more months.
Which was basically 1/10 of a minimum wage. So I went and found another job, even if I hadn't completed my bachelor yet.

So I did 4 days working + 1 day education for about year. After having done 5 day internship + 1.5 day part time job for 6 months.
I actually kept working 4 days for a while but now in terms of hours I would say I'm working 5.5 days.

...Then you wouldn't be a NEET.   :)

If President Bernie Sanders implements fully automated luxury gay space communism with universal basic income, I would be a NEET. Until then, I’ll just keep slaving away in the giant dad mines. :(

Same.  I even worked two jobs on multiple occasions for several years, including high school.

I'm jealous of the NEETlyfe but I like paying for ridiculous shit with my wagecuck earnings, like fucking European pornstars in the ass.

Most of my life after graduating high school, I've had some kind of job. For my adult life, and almost the entirety of my career, I was never out of work for a full pay period. The closest I've been to being a NEET was the 6 month window in Japan when it looked like we'd be moving back to the USA, and a company in California was waiting for my Japan situation to resolve to bring me back on board.

That 6 months was the first long break I'd had since entering the workforce. I didn't have cash, infinity pools, or an ass that looks good in a thong, but I did appreciate the time off.

Had a similar experience to Chrono's, only I didn't view it as a NEET situation so much as looking it at like getting a taste of retirement.   :P  Decided to move back to the States and we waited for stuff with my wife's visa to go through.  During that time I was getting a pretty nice unemployment check from the Japanese government and we were living with my in-laws, so the only bill I had to pay was for my cell phone.  Didn't do much during the week, but spent weekends in the city hanging out and having fun plus went back and forth to Tokyo during this time.

Then after coming back here, the school program I decided to try was not for me and we found somewhere else that was a better fit...but I had to wait another 3-4 months for it to start so I just kept on hanging out, meeting friends, and playing video games all day/night long until it started.  Probably would have been bored out of my mind if it weren't for Street Fighter IV and Resident Evil 5.

Can you qualify as a neet during that time period after you graduate and are looking for a job? If so that would be the last time I was a neet I guess, 10 years ago or so. That might be the only time I was a neet in fact. Does like...the summer after graduating high school count?

Depends on if you’re really looking for a job, or if you’re like “yeah mom, I’m looking for a job” *logs into WoW*

I was one after I was discharged from the military for a few months, and it isn't all it's cracked up to be tbh.

It was cool to not give a fuck about any responsibilities and just playing vidya and the guitar and meeting friends for a month, but then I was getting increasingly restless. Even as a pretty lazy person I was much happier when I just got a full 9-6 job as a translator out of pure boredom.

One for about 6 years with the previous recession.

It's... alright, but it's definitely not all that people make it out to be.
