Title: The Cult of Marie Kondo
Post by: Himu on January 18, 2019, 03:34:29 PM
Does this spark joy? Does this? Does that?

Bow down to your overlordess.

Who is in her cult? Disagree about keeping only 30 books tho.

I fear if I tried to follow KonMarie I would end up possessionless

I do actually want to do her clothes sorting plan this weekend tho, that’s a good one

Haha I saw a meme saying they gave away everything, only to realize they have depression. Thanks KonMarie!

My wife watched a couple episodes and she's big on downsizing and cleaning, but even she thought it was a bit extreme.

What are your wife’s tips for clutter then?

We do a purge once or twice a year getting rid of stuff we don't wear/use anymore and donate it what we can to Mary's Place (women's shelter), Goodwill or a local Buy Nothing group. Just not as extreme as what Kondo does.

I read her book and liked it because it was cute/funny. I have no plans to change my cluttered physical and mental existence.

Imagine needing to listen to an "organisational expert" to figure out you need to throw away your old shit.

This is a conversation that happened.

"Huh, new BBQ. Other one acting up is it?"
"Which other one?"
"The one I saw in your bathroom."
"In the bathroom? Where?"

:dead

Hoarding. Not once.

What's extreme about it? "Does this spark joy/good memories? Keep it. No? Discard it, it's nothing huge." Seems kinda "zen" and not extreme to me?

Well, I was kinda doubting all this, but if two people are saying I need to get my life together and clean up my living spaces...

They're obviously evil demon trash trying to take me from the loving hands of the Blood God.

Our house has always been pretty decluttered because we moved around a lot and we try to keep it like that with a yearly purge. We def used Marie Kondos way of folding and stacking clothes, but actually we almost didn't throw out anything because we never have too much shit.

We have kept a minimum of books, as most of them we give away

Also I think people that just throw out stuff to buy new stuff miss the deeper anti consumerist point of the experience

This shit does not work if you're suffering from chronic depression. I wonder if she'd tell me to throw my life away as well cause it doesn't really spark joy either.

Did some of this by accident. If you move yearly for a couple years eventually you find the boxes you haven’t opened x2 moves and instead of bringing them on the next, you toss them instead

I don't really have a lot of possessions- physical media in general is dumb in this digital age unless it has a practical purpose, like trading in used games towards new ones on the console side. My aesthetic is pretty stark and minimalist to begin with, and I don't like a lot of clutter or trash in my personal space. To top it off, the saying "limitations breeds creativity" is one of my favorites.

So basically, I didn't need some trendy ho telling me to do a bunch of shit I already do. So I'm just over here rolling my eyes at all of y'all that are dumb enough to give her money to tell you to clean up and feng shui your personal space. She's cuddly Daddy P for the polite set.

Also, fuck anyone telling me to get rid of any books. It's the only form of physical media I've found I don't like in a digital form.

My physical media aesthetic is Horror Blu-Rays, Weird Fiction compilations, and Vita games.

(Partially) because of this huckster I missed out on the opportunity to buy a Grand Seiko SBGH267G for the cost of a Tudor Black Black Bay 36 and for that I will always hold her in some amount of disdain, even if I am on record here as not being particularly fond of Grand Seiko's #aesthetic.

I tried to watch the Netflix show with my wife last night.

Her response: "She looks like she's maybe in her 40s?  I don't like her- she's telling people what to do just like that bitch from work and they look sad.  I want to watch anime."  *Ends show*

I watched one episode, folded some clothes and then decided to tackle my beard trimmer.

Looking at it for two seconds, I realized you can take it apart and I found it stuffed with years of beard hair under the blade housing. Cleaned and it felt so good but then a tiny spring popped out and I can't find it anywhere. I may have to buy a new trimmer now. Serves me right.

Don't worry, you'll step on it next time you go take a leak in the middle of the night.

See if they sell replacement blades. Might come with the entire assembly.

What’s nice about paring down your clothes is it makes laundry more manageable if you’re like me and keep wearing stuff from the closet until it’s out :lol
