Seems to be the "it" appliance of the moment, combining the very American paradoxical loves of pseudo-healthy eating and deep fried artery clogging goodness.
It is the real deal?
-
Yes, I do have an oven.
-
I have a deep fryer like a true American pig.
-
I have one. I think it’s overrated.
It does ok with reheating frozen stuff, like fries or pre-cooked tenders.
I tried to fry chicken tenders in it and wings and thought neither was very good.
-
yeah i've got one of those and the other fad appliance (instant pot). both are really useful for an easy healthy meal or an easy unhealthy one too :lol used the air fryer a lot when i was doing keto for wings and other meats
-
I think insta pots are far more useful than the air fryer. Being able to do a slow cooker meal in like two hours is pretty cool.
-
when exactly did they start calling electric pressure cookers instant pots? I bought one for my mom years ago and it was her favorite appliance.
-
"instant pot" is just the most popular brand so it became a kleenex or xerox situation. i use mine more than my air fryer for sure but it's nice to have both.

ah ok, the one I got her was a cuisine art. It's super handy for making all kinds of stews, soups, meats that take an otherwise really long to braise.
-
I think instaPot is just a triumph of marketing.
Someone gave them a good brand name and started pushing recipes and YouTube videos and what not.
-
My dad does
-
I just put pizza in the oven.
-
Don't air friers use a little bit of oil though?

Got one for xmas last year. It can be a bitch to clean.
-
call em what you want, they still work great :yeshrug

No doubt a convection oven works way better than a toaster oven or an air fryer, but there also is a question of power consumption. Do you really want to fire up your convection oven to reheat a slice of pizza?
-
I just find it entertaining that millennials are wowed by decades-old food (Soylent, which is just Boost or Ensure with slightly more rat shit) and technology (pressure cookers, convection ovens, etc.) concepts.
-
Get you a combi oven then talk to me
:snob
-
What's the difference between an insta-pot and a pressure-cooker?
-
Air fryers suck for french fries. They make them taste like oven fries. As in, not fried.

that would make sense since it's a small oven
-
put a tiny dab of oil on them before cooking, then they'll be perfect :mouf

nothing really. same as kleenex vs tissue

I had one and never used the steam functionality. :fbm

Lol who has pizza leftovers
Im sure any power difference is negligible if you consider the airfryers life span and production cycle
An oven will last like 20-30 years for sure, that air fryer will be in a landfill in 3
-
What's the difference between an insta-pot and a pressure-cooker?
It's an electric pressure cooker brand; they became popular because of their "hit one button" ease of use style and then the name sort of stuck as a catch-all for modern electric pressure cookers.
Luckily in europe we still call them pressure cookers
-
Honestly for French fries now I just slice a potatoe up and put olive oil on it and throw them on a baking tray in the oven.
Though they might be pretty legit in an air fryer too.
My biggest complaint with the air fryer is typically the size and shape.
So like I did wings in it... they came out sort of ok if I kept the basket mostly empty, but as soon as the wings started touching they’d be all soggy in the spots where the wings were not fully exposed to air.
At which point it was just quicker to fry them.
-
Oven fries... :s
You're supposed to deep fry them in beef tallow.
-
Yes, I bought one recently and now feel massively stupid because my toaster oven is a convection oven too, so anyone want it? :lol

I'd take the convection toaster off your hands
-
Naw that thing is lit
-

Insta-pot is a slow cooker and pressure cooker. Pressure sure they also have a high-temp setting for searing
-
I do also have an instant pot and those are legit.

Yep, I have a Philips XL one and I believe Philips invented this appliance.
Get the bigger models because the regular ones are too small and you have to fry everything seperately (so by the time you're finished with your meat your potato's are cold).
Things that go well:
- Chicken (especially hotwings and the likes)
- Hamburgers
- Fries and various other 'regular' fry things (Frikandellen, Kroketten :P )
- Bread (Croissants)
- Toast
- Fish
- Steak (medium or rare is delicous)
- Any sort of potato product
Things that I haven't gotten to work well
- Vegetables (this thing came with veggie recipes but veggie from an airfryer are just tasteless)
- Thicc meat (if meat is too thicc it is hard to properly fry. It usually stays raw on the inside and increasing the temperature doesn't help much (which is a + for steak but a - for everything else) you need to cut thicc meat in smaller pieces)
- Bitterballen (buy the oven ones Dutch friends, the regular bitterballen will look disgusting as they don't turn brown and they're usually undercooked)
- Schnitzels (even though this is not thicc I don't particularely like airfryed Schnitzels)
Overall I'm happy with my airfryer. It saves a ton of time and your kitchen or appartment won't smell like a fryer stand for a day plus it opens up foods that non-fryer owners can't cook.
Cleaning can be a hassle, especially the basket. But otherwise it is very easy to use and the food is tasty and far less greasy.
