Title: Movie talk: what can be done to improve ratings at the oscars?

I was watching this show the other day that was pretty interesting. Oscar ratings have gone down with the popularity of other award shows and tv shows and shit like that. There's just so much on tv now that people dont' really think to watch them these days.

During the show, they were constantly bringing up ideas so as to possibly update the awards show to appeal to a wider audience. One of the hosts said that movies are fun, and the show needs less professionalism. One argued that people watched the oscars to see their favorite stars on tv. There's little reason to do that now that there's so many award shows and the actors get to prepare their acceptance speeches over time, making them feel recognizable and sometimes robotic.

I was wonder what Evilbore's stance on the Oscars were. How important is it to you? Do you really care?

In my family it's always been a tradition to watch the Oscars. It's always been looked on as a magnificent event in my house.

Making them more fun might go over-board and turn it into the peoples award show shit.

BUT there was a day where films like Raiders of the Lost Ark & Jaws got nominated for all the major categories.

As did straight up comedies like Blazing Saddles.

Yeah, apart of the deal seems to be that the oscars is all about the smaller films these days.

I mean I know they did LOTR but that seemed to be an exception. The idea of 2-3 of the nominees also being some of the most "popular" (and good mind you not just like LOL POTC FOR BEST PICTURE) is long dead.

Also something like Children of Men could have got nominated 20 years ago, but not today.
