the only reason not to immediately purchase vista -- i of course recommend the ULTIMATE edition for the ULTIMATE upgrade -- is because you are a dirty stinking poor person, and you probably shouldn't be allowed to vote, much less install the FUTURE on your pc.

why would you need the ultimate version? for what?
it's stable now, you nasty poor! our very own maf has ran the second release candidate -- the x64 version, even! -- for months without a hitch!
this is the FUTURE. you can either play in the past with the poors and their wiis or join the MEN OF COMPUTING on the first real significant OS upgrade in the marketplace since windows 2000. (apple's clumsy freebsd gui experiment doesn't count -- does os x even have a viable browser yet?)
firefox 2 is a clumsy garage take on internet explorer 7, my friend
because that's the maximum number of addresses a 32-bit value can uniquely specify (2^32)?ah ok thanks, I was just wondering the reason.

Diablos: Which he stated earlier in the thread, learn to read dummy. Also IE7 is Firefox done right.IE7 is a ripoff of Firefox, the greatest browser ever. I will never stop using it.
Drinky: That was a bad effort.
BT what is that "water" thing about?
Drinky: That was a bad effort.
So when are the Vista police gonna bust down BT's door and kill everyone inside?
Im a serious PC user, I NEED vista so bad and I love it. You are a bitter emo child, Diablos.
APF: If it's one thing I'll admit about Firefox, it's that the memory leaking problems need to be addressed, and soon. I did some tweaking in about:config though and it usually doesn't hog much memory now, but it can still get out of hand. Joe User doesn't like to do tweaking, though. Firefox devs need to understand this.
lol Ubuntu. Dont be simple.

Ubuntu is for distinguished mentally-challenged fellowslol Linux distinguished mentally-challenged fellows maybe. Ironically, an Ubuntu live CD has been the most stable way for me to use my computer as my XP install is hosed. Now if you'll excuse me, i've got to get Vista. Built in torrent handling via the official BT client is pretty snazzy.

Oh, I have a feeling we're very near to flash hard drives being available. I think they have to break the 20 gig barrier before they could be marketed as useful, though.
Ritek's 16GB and 32GB SSDs starting at a low, low $169 (http://"http://www.engadget.com/2007/01/09/riteks-16gb-and-32gb-ssds-starting-at-a-low-low-169/")
(http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.engadget.com/media/2007/01/ridata-32gbssd.jpg)QuoteWell hot damn kids, Ritek just announced that their take on the Solid State Disk (SSD) will begin shipment this year. Impressive enough seeing as how only Samsung (and perhaps TDK) can pull this off currently. But what if we told you that they'll cost your friendly OEM a mere $169 to slip 16GB of that cool RiDATA flash into your swank new laptop? That's right, just $169 for a 1.8-inch 16GB SSD or $199 for the 2.5-inch version. They'll also offer 32GB SSDs at launch (64GB near the end of the year) which we can only assume will be less than twice the cost of the 16GB version when purchased in bulk. That's damn cheap, and likely far less than the $600 premium already quoted for the 1.8-inch 32GB SSD from SanDisk. When? Q2, that's when. Can you wait?
Oh yes, flash hard drives are starting to get cheaper and bigger. It only mean good things!
The problem with the Riteks is that they use a cheaper flash memory (no surprise). After a short number of writes (something like 10,000 IIRC), you've reached the lifetime duty cycle of the card. i've skimmed how ReadyBoost works, and i assume it reaches some happy medium between performance boosting and minimize writes to the flash drive. Those drives aren't meant to handle the types of writes that a virtual memory scheme would place on them.Oh, I have a feeling we're very near to flash hard drives being available. Your saying it's not IE7's fault? Do you kiss your mother with that mouth?
Firefox is awesome because the fox is like the 9-tails fox demon in Naruto. Yeah, he's pretty awesome. It's also got FIRE in the name and I like big explosions cause I like Return of the Jedi. :)
I'll get Vista eventually but no $ plus Microsoft 1st release = no no. I have IE7 but have gotten so used to FF that I'll prob never go back.
Edit: Grammar am me yay!
The 1st release rule can apply to almost anything, but I will say that my experience with Vista in Beta was 90% positive, with the negatives being the fault of hardware manufacturers.
That's seriously :-*, what makes vista ultimate any special that it can run those 3d wallpapers? That's just lame.
