I've been watching Xplay episodes that aired in 2003. Tech TV was banging so good in that 2001-2005 era.

We got it way late, right before it became spike or whatever. :doge

TechTV > G4 = G4TechTV
-
Is that the thing where they did those great ICONS documentaries? Pretty sure I watched that through BitTorr...I mean, totally legal means.
-
It wasn’t a part of our cable package until its waning days

TechTV > G4 = G4TechTV
Yeah- TechTV was so much better. It sucked when they got bought and then when the whole network went under.

My memory of Electric Playground is Victor Lucas being a level-headed guy who would talk about games/give good reviews and then Tommy Talarico would jump in and say something like "ARE YOU NUTS?!?!?!?! THIS GAME SUCKS BALLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Yep for sure. That was the dynamic. Tommy also had a bunch of showmanship on top of his hot takes.

Tommy would also bring up footstep noises constantly, which is something I've always paid attention to since.
It was a great dynamic, Victor would be more forgiving for more complex game mechanics, while Tommy loved spectacle and polish above all else.

Olivia Munn was way hotter and sexier before the plastic surgery and thinning of her thic features. Leo and other hosts were fantastic on Screensavers. Attack of the Show was decent background TV, but Screensavers was legitimately informative and interesting.

One of the best things about Extended play and Xplay was how the majority of reviews and grades were reasonable. The writing in general is better than the majority of youtube critics.

X-Play was great. Some clever writing and you can tell it was basically just a skunkworks project for most of its run, which added heavily to the charm.
The Screen Savers was fun for the most part. Attack of the Show wasn't focused enough for my tastes but I liked Kevin Pereira.
Icons is how I learned most of my gaming history.
Arena was dumb fun when I was 12 and needed content to watch.
Cinematech was good for game trailers before YouTube was a thing.
Never really got into Electric Playground or G4tv.com (the show.)
Literally everything else was trash, especially after they dropped the TechTV name entirely and started showing Cops reruns.
-
I remember not knowing any of this shit existed till one of them shat on nintendo and nintards everywhere would not let it go.
X-Play were also targets of the following fandoms:
- Kingdom Hearts ("stop asking us when KH2 is coming out, we don't know")
- Pokemon TCG ("Listen to the Yu-Gi-Hoe!" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h3Hq2p5BoZ4))
- Fullmetal Alchemist (because all the games were trash and they were reviewed as such)
They also made a half-decent Breakfast Club parody:

They're all on YouTube and have been for years. :)

Learned so much from Tech TV. They had a block on every night from like 6-9 where you would get tech news, then that problem solvers? show then some other stuff I wouldn't miss. Used to think Adam Sessler had the coolest job :lol. I remember when Morgan Webb showed up thinking I wonder how long this one will last but she rode it out. Electric Playground was dope too.
-
We got it in our cable package when TechTV rebranded to G4. I thought Icons was probably the best show on the network, I love my gaming history. Electric Playground had a fun dynamic, Tommy Tallarico is pretty chill in person so I liked seeing his 'character' on the show.
-
Man, the internet sucks. No results for a "Morgan Webb Steiner" gis, even if I throw in "jaw" and "ff ix"
-
Attack of the Show would annoy the shit out of me. Still watched it though.
-
I remember thinking Rule of Rose looked amazing after they showed a bunch of cutscenes on Cinematech (it wasn’t).
-
TechTV was for true nerds, G4 was for fake nerds.
