Pick two AND ONLY TWO of your favorites
Terminator 2: Judgement Day
(http://img389.imageshack.us/img389/4314/terminator2judgmentdaypkv6.jpg)
This movie still stands up today. Unlike many action movies it's succeeds at doing more things than just being a standard booom movie to get pumped over. And in terms of memorable scenes this movie delivers. My favorite is still the scene where Linda Hamilton is running from the mental wards and sees the Terminator turn the corner facing her. The shock and fear in her face is priceless

BADASS TOTAL
DIE HARD
(http://img473.imageshack.us/img473/5682/die20hard201py0.jpg)
I saw this movie for the first time a month and a half ago, and I didn't expect to be blown away as much as I was. This should be the blueprint for "how to make a modern action movie". John McClane is the ultamite, modern action hero as far as I'm concerned. He's flawed, he's dirty, he's crass...he's a badass period. And to compliment this badass the movie's makers realized that you need some baddies equally as badass. Alan Rickman and his Euro scum partners take the stereotypes of dumb, baffled bad guys and blow the damn roof off it. These guys are professional badasses in every way, and the cat-and-mouse game they play with John is amazing. Finally, the dialogue in the movie is amazing, and many of the lines are downright classic.

The original Matrix and T2.
-
I love the original Matrix as well, Himuro.
I can't turn on either John McClane or Arnold though.
PD's choices FTW.
-
The original Matrix and Aliens! "Let's ROCK! YEEEEEEAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!11" :gun

You know, in terms of action, Matrix Reloaded kicks the original's ass, but the original just feels more pure. I can watch it to this day and still enjoy it. I haven't watched it's sequels more than once. I like the Die Hard movies, but T2 and Matrix have the biggest fun factor and rewatchabilty to me. I mean shit, I've seen them like a dozen times and they're still not boring.

You really can't go wrong with any of the movies mentioned so far.

True enough! Just wait till someone picks something like Last Action Hero.
-
The first Matrix is fucking unbelievable. I was sooo LTTP though. We watched it in my philosophy class a couple years ago :lol
What I saw from Matrix Reloaded seemed too contrived and long. Everything seemed like it happened for 10 minutes more than needed. That entire car chase/fight scene is the perfect example of movie bombast imo.
Aliens OMG though. That's a nigh perfect action movie. And like Die Hard it has some amazing lines. Whenever my mom sees someone sleeping she's like "someone wake up Hicks!" :lol
-
The Matrix Reloaded is a piece of shit. Just because the wire-fu choreography is more complicated doesn't make it any better. If action films are "better" because they cram as much crap on-screen at once, then you don't know crap!
-
idk
The car chase in Matrix Reloaded was amazing stuff imo, though I admit, the fights were overly long. The Neo vs 10000 Neo's fight in general, was ridiculous, but I LOVED the fight where Neo kicks those fucker's asses in that lobby room and they have swords and shit.

I didn't say it was a better action movie, just that I think some of the action that takes place is better. For example, the car chase was bad ass.

the alien series is tops!
alien³ and alien: resurrection (part 4 that is) take the throne for me

My favorite fight in Reloaded is probably Morpheus's fight with the agent on top of the truck. It was such a basic fight compared to the other crazy shit going on, but I loved it.

crank

I'm banning Sido for picking Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection.

That's why I liked the car chase scene - that fight right there.

Children of Men
T2 and Die Hard are SHIT.

T2 and Die Hard are SHIT.
Wow.
-
No, I could not watch those movies again for the action.
-
T2, die hard 1, Matrix 1, escape from newyork, Lethal Weapons for straight up action. Martial arts would go to fist of fury, Project A, and for jet li either blackmask or fearless. And for action adventure it would go to indiana jones or Pirates.
-
If you want mindless action the best thing ever is Kung Pow.
-
No, I could not watch those movies again for the action.
:S confused am I
-
I've always wanted to watch a movie with a high production budget and has the "DESTROY EARTH MARTIAL ARTS BATTLZ" like in DBZ. I WANT IT!
-
The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
Hard Boiled
-

This was pretty much the entire script for the Superman Lives project J.J. Abrams and McG were doing prior to Bryan Singer took over.
-
The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
Hard Boiled
Westerns don't count in this thread. That's definitely a 10/10 movie, but I want to keep it in the western genre
-
Do martial arts movie get included into this category? Because I'd have to say that Bruce Lee's Game of Death is tops.

It's still an action movie. If I have to replace it, Legend of Drunken Master

Game of death :o really? how many Bruce lee movies have you seen?

Game of death :o really? how many Bruce lee movies have you seen?
A lot. However, the fight with Kareem makes it dammit.

:(
That would have been awesome

The Kareem fight is pretty nice. There's a documentary on the SE version of Enter the Dragon that shows that entire fight and some other stuff that was cut that is loads more entertaining than that movie though.
-
Eh, the script was all kinds of distinguished mentally-challenged. Krypton didn't explode, so Superman spends most of the film locked in aerial super battles ala Dragonball Z with Kryptonians who come to Earth to kill him. The film starts off with a news report of Superman getting his ass kicked in Gotham.
But it has all kinds of problems. His death is handled pretty horribly, Lex Luthor is an alien, Jimmy is a not-so-subtle flamer, Ma Kent gets raped, Supes' suit comes out of a canister like Venom's symbiote, etc.

That was an amazing scene to bad thats like basically the only scene with Alive-bruce lee in them.
Him ripping out Chuck norris chest hair in return of the dragon was cool too, lol, but I think his best fight scene had to be fist of fury where hes in circled by the rival schools guys.

:lol wtf
The battle itself sounds like it would have rocked but yeah everything else you just said is just horrible. I think what the past Superman needed was a good battles scene amongst all the melodrama.
-
I don't know. That scene in that movie was just so goddamn boss...
Enter and Return of the Dragon are classics but..gah.
I love me some Bruce Lee.
