Title: Hmmm...movie channels are pretty good sources to brush up on movie experience
Post by: Himu on January 31, 2007, 04:36:16 PM
Sucks that Taxi Driver is on. It's been on for an hour. I would like to start from the beginning but whatever.

So far I have these movies set to record on my dvr this week:

Gothika
The Exorcist
Emperor of the North
The Quiet Man
The Long, Hot Summer
The Innocents
Dear Brigette
The Caveman's Valentine
Children of the Corn

And that's just from AMC. I'm going to look at IFC and TCM's schedule to see if they're going to play anything interesting.

If you guys have any movie suggestions based on their schedule, let a rip!

IIRC, TCM is playing 2001 in a week or so, and you should definitely check that out. IFC usually plays the same material for a week or so, then moves on to another batch of films, etc.

IFC shows Tarantino movies a lot.

Really only Reservoir Dogs. They tend to play movies that are both "modern indie" and "old school", like a Tarantino/Kurosawa double bill. :hyper

I saw Pulp Fiction  a few times.  I think they also show war movies a lot.

I've seen every Tarantino film except Jackie Brown, so I don't really care about that.

Anyways, I want to see Seven Samurai dammit.

We should have a movies on tv thread so we can let people know when certain films will air.

BTW, you should check put Sundance every now and then. Sometimes they will show some great films, like Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels or Audition. But mostly just crap. :/

Anyway, TCM, IFC, and Sundance are where you really wanna be. And I think IFC shows Seven Samurai from time to time. :)

I would watch AMC again if they brought back widescreen. I can do commercials, but fullscreen pan-and-scan is total crap. I can't even watch movies on HBO because of that shit.

IFC, Sundance, FMC (Fox Movie Channel), and TCM are where it's at.

There's a Sundance channel? I have satellite. Never heard of it. I'll look for it. Fox Movie Channel is good, huh?

Criterion or what

Yes, the single disc. It's OOP, but it can still be found for about $30-40 in most stores, and mine is only slightly used for a fraction of the cost. :-*

FMC is alright. They play movies and they're in widescreen. I don't really ask for anything else.

I'll take it.

Okay, The Truth About Cats and Dogs and Marriage Go Round have gone on my dvr queue. THIS BETTER BE GOOD.

The Verdict?

FMC is alright. They play movies and they're in widescreen. I don't really ask for anything else.

The movies are also unedited. Die Hard, DH: With a Vengeance, Commando and Predator always seem to be on the channel. It's awesome.

Also, if you have the Showtime channels, Showtime Extreme is a good place to catch up on hardcore exploitation/asian gangster flicks; I first saw Ichi the Killer and Gozu, two awesome films from Takashi Miike, on that channel late at night. :hyper

I'm looking at Showtime-E's schedule. I'm hoping this is Showtime East, because they've got shit like..Pretty Woman on here.

Ah there we go. Showtime Extreme.

Well...I probably won't watch that much, but I've got at least that many movies on my DVR queue. I'll be busy for a while. Still haven't watched Dune.

It was odd that the Eva was like maybe 25 or something, and he looked like he was in 50's though. Actually, it kinda sickened me.
