Well I know where my band of marauders is headed next!

Gonna try braving the supermarket tomorrow I think... see what's remaining.went to the store yesterday and it was pretty funny what was left. if you are eating vegan or gluten free, you had the run of the store.
Yes, yes, fuck yes!!!Gonna try braving the supermarket tomorrow I think... see what's remaining.went to the store yesterday and it was pretty funny what was left. if you are eating vegan or gluten free, you had the run of the store.
the meat section was hilarious. all that was left was a lot of corned beef, chorizo, and bratwurst. :lol i left with some of each and am looking forward to it :deliciosu
Tonight : orzo with cannelini beans and some veggies. Missed eating and cooking simple food fuck fancy shit :noahPhotos please.
So out of curiosity, what exactly is "American Cheese"? I saw many recipes/videos mentioning it when talking about burgers, but i'm not sure what it'd translate into (the name is sort of generic if you just google it).
I always thought it was just cheddar, but apparently it's not.
So I've decided that to learn how to cook and stop eating frozen food and more interesting cuisine (today's lunch was Italian sweet chicken sausage pan-fried in naan bread with some roasted salted green beans and ritz crackers), since the market availability of ingredients is sketchy and potentially dangerous to acquire, I'm gonna try one of those meal kit services next week and see how it goes. I like the idea of it, since I have a lot of GI limitations (can't handle a lot of spices, dairy, etc..) so I can leave out stuff I don't eat.

Anyone tried any of them and have any comments re: taste quality? I'm sure they're all safe, nutritious food, I just don't know if their meals actually taste good. Wanna get the best tasting stuff. But for next week probably just go with the one that has a burger because the hardest part of shelter at home and avoiding take-out/fast food is the burger withdrawal and the market didn't have any ground beef or buns last time I went :(

Wanted to make chocolate chip cookies but only had whole wheat flour. Surprising the first few batches were pretty good, then I got lazy and put the rest of the batter in like a lil cake and it turned out so good
Living in the shadow of Mt. Rainier, my wife has always made sure we're prepared to be without access to stuff for a long time. We have a freezer in our garage full of berries and meat, as well as a pantry with tons of heirloom beans, rice, a bunch of canned stuff she made herself, etc.
Today I felt well enough to cook so i made my personal twist on revithosoupa (greek lemon-oregano-chickpea soup). I added celery, parsley, black kale, and garlic to add nutrition and flavor and weight to it. It's important for a sick person to get good nutrition and warm fluids I think.Nice. Got a recipe I could follow?

Just finished my third batch of rye bread. I think I'm gonna make a batch once a week, unless I get sick and can't be arsed while I'm dying. Or if I can't find rye flour anymore, the whole shelf in the supermarket has been practically empty for a while now. Apparently I'm not the only one who decided to start making their own rye bread. It's officially impossible for Finnish people to exist without it.
I don't buy rye bread too often and I don't really see myself buying it at all anymore, mine's better than many store-bought ones :pimp Now the only issue is storage, paper bags and they dry out, plastic bags and they get too soft. I guess a bread box could work?

Nice. Thanks for that. I think I need to bake some crusty bread to go with it.Nice. Got a recipe I could follow?
My mum made some avgolemono soup today, but my kids are going to eat it all before I get the chance.
Edit: The best part about all this home cooking is that I'm down about 2kg in the last couple of weeks.
I just used this one and then made my tweaks https://www.mygreekdish.com/recipe/greek-chickpea-soup-recipe-revithia/
All flour and baking powder/yeast was completely sold out at the (pretty big) supermarket in my city, today. >:(
People must be baking like crazy, i suppose.
That's the kind of stuff that elevates food into art. :delicious
I was on a vegan kick but this sausage was about to go bad in my fridge :'(What more do you need? Sounds like perfection to me.

It's just a plate of chorizo eggs. That's the meal.
No fruit, just bananas, should i add stuff inbetween? Disclaimer, I havent been doing well, when I cook for myself i dont care and at some point over the last three weeks I started living on fish fingers and yogurt everyday, skipped food a few days out of laziness too and it's starting to affect me physically, hence the above.

So while I'm enjoying learning how to cook things I thought I'd learn how to make some drinks too and picked up some cocktail kits:

I tried making a classic old fashioned (2oz bourbon + 1/2 ounce simple syrup + 2 dashes of bitter + orange peel) and it came out pretty solid, but I failed hard trying to use a fruit peeler without stabbing myself and ended up just cutting with a knife and it was too big of peel chunk. Also used too many bitters because fuck dashes are hard. Also 2oz bourbon seems like a lot. I think next time I might use a bit less. Still a decent start. Also that Angel's Envy is a pretty good bourbon.

Vegan taco bowl. I was inspired by the By Chloe quinoa bowl but I put my own spin on it. I made guac instead of avocado, and a dressing from tahini+lime+cumin+paprika+chile. I also added pickled jalapenos and jalapeno-lime chips. Black beans, rice, TVP "taco meat", greens.

Make some real ice!

Remember he mentions in the video the quality of the water you use matters. Try different water too?
Looks great! I love stuffed peppers.Remember he mentions in the video the quality of the water you use matters. Try different water too?
Yeah, I'm using filtered water from the fridge like he suggested. There was a hole in my ice block which I think jacked it up because the ice splintered from there.
Just gonna leave it in longer so it can freeze more. Hopefully 2nd time's a charm.

He also mentioned adjusting the fridge's temperature/freezer power level. I recommend OVER 9000.
The main thing is having the sides insulated and having it freeze gradually from the single, exposed surface. Air getting in is what messes with transparency. Even if it's not clear, it's still better to have large ice.
So... about those whisky block ice makers: You can submerge them in the cooler and get the same effect.
I bought stuff to make that whipped coffee craze that’s sweeping quarantine land, gotta wait until tomorrow to try it :doge
First time making jambalaya... Think i added a little too much liquid but i got red beans, veggie sausage and cremini mushroom in there :rejoice

But I have no idea how to do it without chicken broth and salt pork. Water alone isn't enough. You need broth. And pork really brings the flavor out and makes the greens have a complex taste.
Trader joes has a 2 dollar "chickenless" powdered bouillon that owns. Also liquid smoke is a trick I use for when I need to make something porky :-*
Got a new fry pan. Spent some $$ (not crazy spending, but like $40-50) and got a nice one since I'm cooking all my stuff with fry pans and it's aluminum non-stick which I've never used. Took me a bit to get the hang of it (oil just runs to the edges pretty quick, but doesn't need much oil to cook) but it's working out pretty well. It is a bit heavy so I gotta use two hands.
I've failed every time at making a good tasting indoor hamburger so I was reading up and everything was saying you gotta use a cast iron grill if you're gonna make hamburgers indoors. So I spent all night reading about cast iron which sounds like a fucking pain in the ass (and hot & heavy) as someone who just soap hand washes everything and throws a lot in the dishwasher, but I'm gonna give it a try. Ordered a cast iron grill and cleaning brush/scraper and some better oven mitts since everything says cast iron gets HOT and I'm prone to slightly burning myself and dropping everything I'm holding. Read up on cleaning/oiling after each use and how to season the pan initially. Will put the effort in and see if I can get a good hamburger out of it. I used to eat at least 2 hamburgers a week and I've had like one in the last two months so I miss them...
These are difficult times for local restaurant owners :tocryTrue, because that doesn't look like a selfmade hollandaise.
Everything at that restaurant is fresh and self made. It's insane how much effort they put into the food compared to other places. :heartThese are difficult times for local restaurant owners :tocryTrue, because that doesn't look like a selfmade hollandaise.

It was Bearnaise not Hollandaise
Tomorrow I'm going to figure out how to caramelize my onions without burning the shit out of them
