Did you get to S3? It's basically Lynch turned up to 11 in parts. S1 and 2 are definitely products of their time and smoothed over due to being on network television.

Nope. I've never even finished s1. It baffles me when people consider it good Lynch. Here we have Mulholland Dr, Elephant Man, and Blue Velvet and then there's some cheesy ass 90's tv show with bad, cheesy dialogue. It's the complete opposite of why I like Lynch and I've tried watching it multiple times.

What's funny is that I LOVE Deadly Premonition and other Twin Peaks inspired media :lol
I love the IDEA of a murder in a small town and an investigator interviewing everyone and stepping into the lives of all sorts of people. But the execution....very cheesy stuff. I might give it another shot some time after I watch The Sopranos or something.

mid S2 is legit really bad, like I usually enjoy and wanna defend the reputational "black sheep" installments/periods of series but I had a hard time with this one (rewatched before S3)

Twin Peaks' original run can hardly be called Lynch, and he says so himself.
"The pilot is the only thing I am particularly, extremely proud of. There were great moments along the way," Lynch said.
"The second season sucked."
The Lynch canon of Twin Peaks is:
- Northwest Passage (AKA the original 1.5 hour long movie pilot for Twin Peaks AKA the international/European cut)
- Fire Walk With Me (debatably The Missing Pieces too)
- The Return (AKA Season 3 -- all 18 episodes were directed and co-written by Lynch)
The rest was handled by other creatives and ranges from enjoyable to gutter trash.
