Title: Things corona-chan killed no one will miss
Post by: Nintex on May 24, 2020, 07:35:48 PM
There are certain things in the modern world that we don't think about much but will not exist anymore because corona has ended it.

One such example, salad bars
https://twitter.com/Jezebel/status/1264696688276537344 (https://twitter.com/Jezebel/status/1264696688276537344)

Won't be missed.

What else won't be missed?

I like salad bars

Gotta agree with this. If I don't like the menu, I generally go with the Salad bar and stuff my face with it.

Salad kinda sucks. Let's admit it.

Salad is good, but a good and interesting salad is typically expensive.

and fattening lol

corona gave birth to the 5g conspiracy, and now you're telling me it will kill it too?
I thought corona was chaotic neutral, but that's pure evil.

One of the best things about my current job is that there is an on site cafeteria where you can get good food for cheap. I really wonder what it will be like whenever we get back to the office because it had:

* Self service hot plate
* Chef's plate
* Salad bar
* Pizza by the slice
* Sandwich shop
* Grill (burgers etc)

I know they were doing prepackaged salads on the last day I was in the office, but I dunno how they'll handle any of the other stuff. I'll probably stick to bringing my lunch since I've eaten so much healthier in general, but there were hundreds of others who ate there daily. And there was another cafeteria with differnent food, mostly from local restaurants. Pretty rough for all the people who work these places.

Another thing Corona will kill that I personally won't miss Trade Shows and Conventions.

Tupperware parties have been dead for 20 years.
I just read a long form article that because of COVID-19 the Tupper Ware company lost nearly a billion dollars and the 3000 or so Tupper Ware party consultants in the Netherlands might lose their contracts.  :doge
Also the company is facing lawsuits in Mexico and other places for fraud and whatnot while banks pump in more money to keep it afloat.  :lol

How can you trust some weirdo not to bite your dick off at a gloryhole :existential

You can try to imagine how bad it must be to live your lifestyle in the open that you're forced to use shit like anonymous gloryholes to get off once in a while.

In general though, horny dudes will leap across a volcano if they're promised the big O on the other side.

Old people resent having to make any kind of changes to their lifestyle, schedule, routine. Change is apparently frightening in and of itself.

Google scrapping their insane (rumored) Google Store barges (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_barges) + nationwide expansion and focusing on store.google.com instead seems oddly prescient now, even if I was raging against the decision at the time...

Also when the first MS stores came to Boston they went fucking BIG. I swear I was seeing people with MS bags every day for several weeks. Seemed successful enough to me, and I honestly hoped MS succeeded to demonstrate the value in the concept to Google. Oh well!

The MS store in the Huntington Square Mall was just people playing Xbox One on the couch in front of the big screen TV setup with maybe 1 or 2 people checking out the rest of the store. Contrast that to Apple which was always RIDICULOUSLY packed. Even the Sony store in Roosevelt Field usually had way more people.
