I don't think I'm really cynical (anymore) but usually shit just kinda blows over especially with the insane news cycle we've been living in but shit keeps happening like every week. Wtf going on fr, wtf is the world gonna look like in a month? three months? six? Life always has a certain level of uncertainty that you just can't worry about but wow hmmm

Yeah my life hasn't really been "stable" since like 2015? but all this is a different level. I'm not scared, I think we might be at similar points emotionally but it sucks. I'm just kinda hoping this all works out to something good. Not in a really silly childish/naive way but a sincere hope for positive changes in a myriad of industries and pockets of life.

I'm just hoping if we all buckle in and survive to 2021, that things will be better. Probably misguided hope, but theoretically in a year with no more trump, no more covid, no more crazy warmongering, and maybe some actual good changes through legislation to fix problems, things might be alright.

I'm not an optimist, but with 2020 I think I gotta believe it will get better at some point.

i haven't even been showing up for work this week bc i just don't care anymore. i know i'll have to quit anyways because they want us to come back to unsafe working conditions next week, but i don't have the energy to tell them why i think they're fucked in the head.

i dunno, i'm so so happy to see people finally fighting back against the right, but at the same time it feels hopeless because of how little stuff has changed for decades now. and that kind of shit makes it feel hard to give a fuck about anything else going on in my life too. like everything is just shattered.

As crazy as it all seems, the actual number of people that are looting/rioting are less then 1 percent of 1 percent of people in the country.  They also all seem to be from the same age demographic (at least from my eye).  Which speaks to that existential angst that 20-somethings have always felt, but is being exacerbated in these difficult times.

So, focus on the fact that far more people are out there volunteering to clean up streets, donating food to families that have lost their only grocery store and protesting peacefully.

Yeah my point being the "don't pay your mortgage" strategy only makes sense if you are underwater on your mortgage.

Which.. I'd only be if the market literally was cut by like 40% here.   Which could happen...

But if I liquidate now...  just a shitty thing to be considering.  I understand some people have it worse, but there's a certain amount of stress that comes along with having a lot to lose.  I worked my ass off for 2 decades and this house is largely what I have to show for it.
Play the long game with real estate. If things don't get better within say 5 years then you'll have far bigger problems.

It is pretty fucking overwhelming. I have a bunch of work stuff that I can’t get into here, except to say that it is very stressful. I am grateful that I have a job that allows me to work remotely. I am grateful that I have a reasonable salary for this country, which allows me to continue paying the mortgage on the house in which my family lives.

Coming off of a centennial pandemic; watching as China tries to cast themselves as the savior or helpers after they clearly obfuscated all of their numbers, and tried to suppress the reports coming out of their country for weeks; watching the USA entirely fail to act on the tardy warning with any kind of alacrity; and then watching this unified reaction to police brutality and sanctioned murder… it’s overwhelming.

From overseas, it feels like I am watching the end of my country.
