I get a check for a performance bonus in July, but am unable to work summer school this year, and there's limited prospects of getting a quick summer job this year anyway. Teachers aren't allowed to file for unemployment if they're expected back in the fall. (Reasonable assurance letter).

My wife is a teacher, she makes around 40K a year after taxes which is a solid income over here, not spectacular but solid. The thought of having to apply for a second job seems crazy to me. :doge
Pay your teachers a livable wage brehs
I've got a job :success
I haven‘t seen any political push in pretty much any state in the US to change the pretty dire situation of teachers regardless of political party.it's a core plank of most state arms of the Democratic Party but it's limited by budget constraints and a total refusal to capture top 1% incomes. we had a few notable teacher strikes last year.
so i'm curious. is there like any, business or regulation related reason they would still keep me on as an employee without actually having me work? It's cheaper to keep you on payroll than make you involuntarily unemployed.
I'm collecting for the Summer break. Even though my claim is from last year I'm still getting the COVID mega bucks. All in all getting more than I would be working. Currently getting paid to binge through Dark. My dudes this socialism business is the bees knees.

The airport calculated the exact dollar amount that would keep my dad off unemployment and have been making him work exactly that amount :lol

Socialism means working though. He who does not work neither shall he eat. :juche
but...how exactly?

UI is typically funded by contributions from the employers, and there's some formula for how much they chip in based on how many people claim UI after working there. But if you're furloughed and collecting UI because you have no hours I don't know if that would help them.
edit: if they're still paying you while you're home, then it could be they got a PPP loan and have to maintain their payroll spending so they won't have to pay it back.
I don't know what's so confusing Oblivion.. they want the option to re-activate you as an employee when they see fit and they won't have the expense of having to recruit/train/whatever an actually new person. Unless I'm missing something here? But that's generally the point of furloughing.

did you miss the part where i said that things have gotten even busier than before the pandemic?
No I didn't. That's just not what I was addressing.
Not that it's very confusing either.
A capitalist company.. using an excuse to make less people do more work? Say it aint so.
quit fighting :lol
I make more in unemployment than when I was employed. No complaints. :yeshrug
Employed. Game dev seems to be reasonably suited to remote-work.
I’ve thought about truck driving. If you can figure out how acquire your own rig and be an owner-operator you can make fucking bank. Until we unlock the power of teleportation, we gon need transportation
Cmon boreans, we’re spread out, let’s network up a trucking team :lol
Employed. Game dev seems to be reasonably suited to remote-work.
wait, you're a game dev?

Yup, been at it since 1994. I attended the very first E3, even.
Also, i think this is very likely to be one of the first jobs to disappear due to automation.Nope. Humans are cheaper. Self-driving trucks are a solution looking for a problm.

Rubbish. :hmph
NEETs exist, self-driving vehicles are a pipe dream. NEETs can be made to maintain themselves and their equipment (and held liable if they don't).
Why? I'm not a luddite.
My pessimistic butt. Self-driving cars are a meme, because they can't predict the behaviour of human drivers on the road. That's a hill I don't see them crest any time soon.Nope. Humans are cheaper. Self-driving trucks are a solution looking for a problm.Source? Lol
Poo-pooing one tech doesn't mean I poo-poo all tech, come on now.Why? I'm not a luddite.
mainly because you called automated driving a pipe dream i guess

Now rail - that is rife for automation.
state highway, state laws. You can keep your car, you just can't drive it at 80mph next to innocent people
