I think they've just been touring and doing other stuff.

Didn't they know did two tracks with The Weeknd.

Don't worry, they've been hard at work making sure the OST to Tron 3 is even better than their work on Legacy. :)

:stahp I hate this fucking timeline

Starboy was everywhere when it came out. I remember hearing it the first time and being like "This is kinda Daft Punky, wonder if there's a shared producer or something." :lol

I'm kinda bummed they never got around to doing the remix album of RAM that was supposedly heavily rumored. That and the fact that they never did a world tour. The guys know verrrrrry well how to hype themselves up in the public. the marketing leading up to RAM was second to none.

This thread was inspired by listening to Homework and Discovery on repeat. God I love me some French house.

One of them helped work on a recent Arcade Fire album as well. They seem like my boy TR in that they have a band which is generally a full time project but don't quite go full on on just that and do other things so there'll be really long ass gaps between releases sometimes.

daft peaked at homework IMO.  :doge

french house is alive and well, David Guetta has been holding the torch for years.  :heh

kidding aside, he has gotten better since getting sober again, he plays throwback sets as jack back:

would recommend listening to nu disco if you want a similar sound to older daft/ed banger type stuff. example:

for french house released this century check out Dombresky or the lads from pardon my french (Mercer, Malaa, Tchami, etc.)

^ Mercer, Malaa, Dombresky, and Tchami I'd file more along the lines of future house or bassline house than the classic disco-influenced French style.

If you guys have exhausted Daft Punk and want some other great funky French sounds, look up Lifelike, Alan Braxe, Dmitri from Paris, Yuksek, and anything from Kitsune.

oh absolutely, not saying it's really the same. a lot of PMF records are a pretty big departure, but Dombreski has a lot of funky stuff, you can see the DNA lol.

I don't really like getting all into genres but there is definitely a ton of stuff in the same vein as old daft punk...it's just that most of it tends to be either old itself or backward-looking IMO. good recs, especially Kitsune stuff.  :heartbeat

Currently it's moving a bit away from the mid 90's Mark Kinchen-inspired sounds, the "business techno", and the dooka-dooka-dooka tech house that were so popular over the last 5 years and back to disco (especially with poppier stuff - hell even the new Lady Gaga/Ariana Grande song samples Cassius - My Feeling For You), also lush, melodic breakbeat-y stuff and dark melodic prog seem to be coming back. While the last few years weren't terribly inspiring, there seems to be a huge wave of good shit lately.

It's weird, like half of Homework I absolutely love, the other half I find a bit grating nowadays. Revolution 909, Indo Silver Club, and Burnin are by far my favorites.
