Title: Are there any supernatural shows better than Angel?
Post by: MMaRsu on July 18, 2020, 01:00:06 PM: Rewatching it now, on S2 and it's just so much fun. Whedon really knows how to make a great show. I haven't really seen all of Buffy but I always thought this show was awesome. Sure it's pretty corny at times but it's all in good fun. There is some genuinly great character development with most of the characters, although I'm noy really a fan of where they take Cordelia in the end. Right now in S2 she's still a fun character.

Will post a few vids later but are there some Angel fans in here?

Motherland: Fort Salem? That one might be okay. But that’s alternate history, isn’t it? I think the question relates to urban fantasy, which commonly involves hidden mysticism. Supernatural, Buffy, and Dresden Files are examples.

October Faction I made it through 8 eps before noping out.

I was unable to get through the first ep of Warrior Nun.

Post by: recursivelyenumerable on July 20, 2020, 12:23:36 AM: I remember liking Angel season 3 even better, with 4 and 5 having some good stuff but being more uneven overall. It's been almost 20 years since I watched it and formed those opinions so idk what I'd think now.

Post by: benjipwns on July 20, 2020, 12:33:18 AM: I got into Charmed because of watching TNT reruns of Angel, it's pretty compatible with the Buffyverse in a lot of ways, though a bit more anti-demon iirc. That's what was good about Angel lots of quality demon role models like Lorne and Illyria.

the first season wasn't that good so maybe you just heard/read some early reviews and impressions and then tuned out and that's what you remember? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It's more of a modern noir procedural.

They help the helpless.

S1 is surprisingly good for a debut season, too. It's a little bit more confused about what the core of the show should be, but they basically figure out what works by the end.

S4, like Buffy, is total trash. S5, also like Buffy, is the best (IMO.)

Post by: recursivelyenumerable on July 20, 2020, 10:03:29 AM: How I remember it is that S4 and S5 were both partly cool and partly disappointing but for different and almost opposite reasons - in S4 the overall arc and the key episodes were good but a lot of the episodes along the way were just really dull to watch. In S5, despite the intriguing concept the execution of the overall story and main plot points were really weak, but it has a bunch of really fun standalone episodes. But that's just what I remember my opinion being when I last watched it almost 20 years ago, idk if I'd think the same now
