Title: Is everyone financially okay?
Post by: EightBitNate on August 12, 2020, 05:23:59 PM: I know with the pandemic going on, lots of people have lost their jobs. With the extra $600 unemployment payment going away in the US, and the next stimulus not ready for a while, I was just checking to see if anyone was in dire need of some cash. Would not mind paying for a Boreans weekly serving of Taco Bell. Feel free to DM me as well.

Still, we're doing well and having a WFH job (been this way since I started in 2010) in this Darkest Timeline has been a nice feeling.

Post by: Positive Touch on August 12, 2020, 09:54:22 PM: been a month and a half since i quit my job and those fucks at the unemployment offices still haven't given me a cent. they finally took the hold off my account so we'll see if i get anything this sunday, but it chaps my ass they "randomly" decided to hold me up until the extra bonus dried up. thankfully i was such a shut-in last year that i have enough to coast by on for a while now, but i gotta admit spending on nothing but bills and groceries is pretty damn boring. this is the moment for all those unplayed game in my collection to shine, i guess.

my biggest worry is that it's likely that absolutely nothing in the government's response will change in the springtime and we'll still all be fucked. i'd have to go out looking for a service job or get rid of my cats and move in with my parents, but fuck either of those. i'd rather hole up in here and tell the landlord to eat shit tbh.

Working a 56 hour work week of manual labor and corporate slave driving for $10.70 an hour, and not getting overtime for my labor, while the department I'm in has increased YoY for daily and weekly profits.....I can't properly express the anger and not giving a fuck I felt.

It's very strange for me to see what occupations people have here and how people post, their mood, mindset, personality as a whole. I take notice of people close to me in real life. In so many ways, I feel like I've lost my personality and ability to exhibit happiness or hope or joy on a daily basis. Having a job that involves very simple but very taxing physical work has given me perspective that I'm grateful for ultimately.

There's a very deep apathy and disconnect with how little worth lower income workers are given. It's not about gratitude and being proclaimed a hero, it's about worth and respect on an economic level. That the labor and stress put on your body is rewarded and that you are valued, that you matter.

I guess I'm pondering and questioning perspective. As a lower income worker that's surviving, this has been the hardest point of my life. And with how much effort and work I've put in, the countless hours and days and weeks of being treated like a machine, it's hard for me to accept that there should be any division in class.

The idea that someone's worth and survival means more than mine or others on an economic level, while people such as myself are being being exposed to hundreds and thousands of people weekly in a pandemic, the fact that this is accepted or acceptable at all is disappointing to say the least.

In summary: I'm surviving but I'd love to rip a rich person's head off with my bare hands.

this is always what gets me about low wage jobs. the disrespect is unreal, to the point that's built in to corporate culture. you're constantly told exactly what you should be doing, to the point that sitting down or going to the bathroom gets you in trouble. hell, every place i've worked the management will genuinely get mad at employees if they look like they're having too much fun or socializing too much, like the only thing you're supposed to be happy about is showing up to some shithole and busting your ass for a wage you can't even fucking live on any more.
it's impossible to be happy at work for any length of time unless you're one of those choads who enjoys sucking up to management.

having zero income right now is incredibly stressful but to be honest i'm really really not looking forward to the day when i have to get back out there and start working again for what will i'm sure be just enough to get by.

this whole system needs to be destroyed and seriously fuck everyone who defends capitalism.

We've heard that might actually happen as soon as next month. This didn't really affect my pay because my boss pushed to get us all raises before this went into effect, so I'm pretty much making the same amount of money as I was last year and will get the pay bump later on.

My wife is now officially on maternity leave from her job, with the baby due in a few weeks- her job sucks and they are not paying her or covering her health insurance benefits, so we're going to have to pay them $60-$70-ish a month to keep getting coverage- this is still cheaper than adding her to my plan. Am also going to have my health insurance go up after the baby is born anyway. If my wife doesn't end up returning to work, her being on my plan is going to make it skyrocket, but welcome to 'Murica.
