This is terrible.
Was a great actor, seemed like a great dude, and was one of the biggest modern frontmen for black roles in big budget films currently. Will leave a gap that'll be hard to fill.

Fucking hell. When I saw the ERA thread, it took my breathe away. I made an audible "what the fuck" when I read the thread title. Being diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer at only 38 or 39 is crazy. Just another reminder that this has been a really shitty year and to get yourself checked yearly and start treating your body right asap.

Man, this is just wrecking me. The background of how he's been fighting this for years in secret and filmed all these movies and put on a smile and strong face in all these interviews and cheered up cancer kids...it's heartbreaking jc

Legitimately one of the most shocking deaths to have happened recently. Dude was going supernova in terms of success. I read an article a while ago about how he was going to quit acting and stick to small stage plays because he wasn't getting cast, then he landed the lead in 42 and from there it seemed like an absolute ascent with really no limit on how much success he'd end up seeing. Even movies like 22 Bridges and Message from the King were fun on the back of his performances.
Feel awful for his family. What incredible resolve too that he not only kept working but also kept quiet publicly about this. I cannot even begin to imagine the emotional and physical toll it takes on a person to work how he has the last four years, be there for his family, speak up for his community, and keep it all under wraps while, quiet frankly, dying slowly.
Makes me feel truly gross for laughing at the memes that popped up a few months ago about his weight loss. I assumed he was getting old, yet now it obviously becomes clear what was really going on.
Rest in power.

And did the Marvel films during it. That's fucking crazy. Chemo knocks the wind out of most anyone.
I know the Marvel Black Panther films generally did a shit ton of CGI and stunt-work, but still... acting in like 12+ hour days doing chemo/being sick from chemo seems really strenuous.
