Seems like a cool hobby. Anyone do this? I always loved farm fresh eggs. The chicken coops must stink like high heaven tho.

Not if you free-range. But then you have crap all around.

I've been tempted to both grow crops and look after a few animals, but I it simply requires more effort than I'm willing to spend. A single hen can produce 200+ eggs per year. You probably want about five hens and a rooster to keep them happy. The stress of having to take care of them would quickly outweigh the free food.

i dont collect the eggs but I use the shit so yeah

When I was a kid, my parents had chickens. Hated them. Weird dinosaurs creatures.

My girlfriend's dad has about 24 chickens, he raises them for eggs and meat. They're cool but they smell baaaaad...

I would totally be a farmer.

I’m only really interested in the eggs.

When i lived outside the city, we had a bunch of 'em (among other animals). Yeah can confirm the smell is bad, but the amount of eggs they produce is uncanny.

Maybe when all my kids are out of diapers.

The smell mostly depends on how often you clean the coop.

No but my neighbor started to and now my dog can’t go in the back yard without having a breakdown. She wants to murder those birds so bad. It actually REALLY sucks.

I raise chickens for the chicken milk.

For sure that's part of it, but they tended to make a mess even in the area of garden they had to walk around in.

Yeah, if you're in a city, definitely don't do chickens unless your neighbors are good with having a rooster around (and maybe get the "spur" broken, but they come back to where you'd have to do that often if you cared about them possibly being aggressive).
