The client is now set to be called the “EA Desktop App,” and it will be faster, simpler, and include more cross-platform features, EA tells GamesBeat. Other improvements reportedly include a “better patching experience” for updating games and access to more information about how much time you’re spending playing. You’ll also be able to access EA’s game subscription services via the client.
“The EA Desktop app is being designed to deliver a frictionless and socially connected experience that is faster for players to get into their games,” EA senior vice president Michael Blank said in an interview with GamesBeat. “We have revealed some of this, but we haven’t revealed all of it.”
EA is also rolling out new benefits for EA Play and EA Play Pro subscription members. Anyone can register for the beta, and EA is sending out download invitations on a first-come, first-served basis. If you’re an Origin player, your games, progress, and friends will carry over. You’ll keep full access to all of your Origin content.

Catchy name, did they get the Xbox naming group on this one?
-
Waiting for them to launch "EA game console", with 1 year if "EA Online Service" included in.
Maybe they want to go retrogame style, renaming FIFA "EA Soccer", Battlefield "EA Shooter" and so on... they already have EA SKATE, after all. :thinking
-
Here's an idea: Just drop the client (RIP free games) and put your shit on Steam.
Maybe update Battlefield 3 to where it doesn't require a goddamn browser plugin? You have the fucking console menus right in game, we know it's entirely possible.
-
Missed opportunity to not just call it EAPP
Which is the sound you make when you play an EA game on release day 8)
-
EA kills off Origin a second time. :(
-
Cant wait to play as Washington Football Team in EA Football Game 22.
-
They are putting their games on Steam.
REEEEEEtious missing the point? SAY IT ISN'T SO.
Yes, I know.
HOWEVER: It still requires the "Origin" client (thin client) to run them.
DROP THAT SHIT. Nobody wants it. Just like they need to drop the fucking Battlelog plugin for 3 and make it use the console server browser menus if they aren't going to update it to the (ugly) "Battlelog" menu that 4 and 1 have (which 5 dropped).
Speaking of which: Hardline never even updated to that new UI despite saying it was "coming soon." :lol :neogaf

Yeah needing to run Origin still is the reason I havent bought tf2 on steam

EA can't be assed to ensure that the games on Origin install on Windows 10 (or even 8/8.1) I don't think they're going to do shit about a game that has a handful of viable servers for a hundred some players last I checked.
