Title: 2020 Thebore.com COVID-19 Census
Post by: james on December 07, 2020, 03:54:53 PM
Hi everybody, sort of curious what the rate of disease in these parts has been.

Please fill out the survey, for science.

This survey is HIPAA compliant, probably?

A cousin died but we never confirmed if she had Covid and another uncle got it but he self quarantined immediately and looks like no one got it. He is okay, already going back to work.

I had a several days long cold in late March but tbh don't think it was covid. The likelihood of me catching it is pretty fucking slim given my work situation (from home) and general hatred of humanity, which has only grown since all this started, so.

For the past year I assumed I had it around the second half of January when I was quite sick and on occasion delirium for about 2 weeks and it felt like a very bad case of the flu (usually I'm out for about 3 - 4 days, not 14 - 18 days). Even though I got my flu shot that season. I had symptoms like a terrible headache and a burning throat that I hadn't gotten in years and it didn't play nice with my asthma either. Also felt very tired.

That was before COVID-19 was known to have officially arrived here though and the flu season was also pretty rubbish late 2019/early 2020 so other than taking some plain headache and fever treatments I didn't seek much medical help.
Wasn't until at the end of the first wave (June) that I again got ill and went to get tested. That test was negative and I recovered within 3 - 4 days.

Confirmed via positive test while sick.

At the start of January I was super ill for about two days with what I thought was a bad bout of flu, and had a persistent cough for several weeks afterwards.  I had just visited family for the holidays and it happened right after I had left.  My dad was also similarly ill at the same time, and his wife had experienced a similarly rough time a couple weeks prior, so we've been operating under the possibility that we all had covid and was unaware it wasn't the flu.

I've been healthy.

My aunt had it (tested positive) , and my boss got it (didn't want to get tested and put on a list).

Mid January I'd bust into coughing fits at random, a dry raspy cough, for about a week... then it just went away. I read an article that some of the earliest US cases may be tied to CES, which I didn't go to but some of my coworkers did.

I haven't entered any other households and had everything delivered since March and haven't had any sicknesses at all. Working from home made it real easy, and I have enjoyed not getting colds or anything.

My wife and I haven't gotten it. My father in law did though and ended up passing it to all my wife's family. And we have been paranoid this whole time about giving it to them or others since my wife works in ICU and off and on in the COVID ward.

Really interesting results.

The Bore has a 5% confirmed infection rate.

By comparison, the US as a whole has a 4.7% confirmed rate and Europe has a 2.5% confirmed rate. Belgium is at 5.17%, making them the worst "large" country in the world.

Good job being slightly worse than average everyone!

Named after Jeffrey Epstein and his then-boss Donald Barr, father of Attorney General Bill Barr and scifi author.

spoiler (click to show/hide)
Yes, Bill Barr's father did write a scifi novel. Two, actually. And it's...not great:

Quote from: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_Relations
Becky Ferreira has described the novel as "highly unsettling", due to its depiction of rape of enslaved people, particularly teenage girls, and other coercive sex acts.

I spoke too soon!

Looks like we ended with a 3.9% infection rate, which is perfectly in line with expectations.

Good job being normal everyone!
