I've never heard of Audition.  Other than that, you got a perfect 100.

Its an awesome asian horror film by Takashi Miike, my favorite "chessy" director.

Snatch is kinda like Lock Stock but better imo

brad pitt has a great role and there's a lot of funny shit going on in the movie.

the big difference between the movies is that lock stock looks low-budget while snatch does not.

but if you liked lock stock you'll like snatch too :D

Snatch rocks.  Lock does too, but Snatch is better.

You haven't seen Snatch, Shake!?!? What was all that "OMG LOCK STOCK IS BETTER" BULLSHIT?!?!

Snatch is fucking awesome.

Oh, and those are all good picks (I don't know Audition), but I've gotten just about every single one for less.  8)

Pretty sure those are the everyday prices of all those movies at Best Buy. I wait for the 2 for $15 or 3 for $20 deals. They rock.

Well, I only have the regular edition of Office Space, which I got a while ago. Not gonna double dip on that. But good choice. Office Space is freaking great.

Office Space is by far one of my favorite comedies. In the top five, no doubt.
Title: Re: Rate my purchases: The SHAKE Edition
Post by: Van Cruncheon on February 03, 2007, 05:03:27 PM
The Godfather certainly doesn't suck -- it's just worn out its welcome with me. The acting is great and the cinematography still works for me, but I just don't find it a terribly interesting or engaging movie any more.

Fight Club -- especially the book -- is revolting post-adolescent crap, though.
Title: Re: Rate my purchases: The SHAKE Edition
Post by: The Miles Trahan Burger Experiment on February 03, 2007, 05:06:27 PM
Godfather is certainly overrated in my book, but its still a definite classic (plus I haven't watched it in full more than once, so its still pretty fresh to me). Fight Club is certainly pretentious (and I hear the book sucks), but the film is so well-made and tongue-in-cheek that I can look past the story's flaws.
Title: Re: Rate my purchases: The SHAKE Edition
Post by: Van Cruncheon on February 03, 2007, 05:08:37 PM
at least the film ended on a plea for self-moderation rather than anarchy, but still: ugh. ironically, i dig most of fincher's other work.

Title: Re: Rate my purchases: The SHAKE Edition
Post by: The Fake Shemp on February 03, 2007, 05:14:52 PM
Panic Room was so tedious that I was looking for my own panic room to escape from the movie.  Alien to the Power of Three is remarkably incoherent, Drinky.  I have no idea what you're talking about.

I really liked Fight Club when I saw it, but on the other hand, I was like 15 or 16-years-old.

I'm acknowledging Alien^3 is crap, hebe. I like it because it has fuckin' ROC, creepy old white men, and some great albeit underlit imagery. It's still a shit movie; it just plays to my lamer tastes. Kinda like you and Sam Raimi films! :punch

Title: Re: Rate my purchases: The SHAKE Edition
Post by: brawndolicious on February 03, 2007, 05:18:01 PM
Agree with what Drinky said but the book was better...it's just neither version would have a point so people point at the one with a big budget as being better.  There's a fucking reason why half the lines of the narration are said word-for-word in the movie.  It's more enterataining hearing what's happening in the story (of absolutely nothing) then watching it.

Title: Re: Rate my purchases: The SHAKE Edition
Post by: Van Cruncheon on February 03, 2007, 05:26:11 PM
they never understood the book, either, although the book sides more with the "reject your capitalist-fueled slavery and find freedom in spewing testosterone out of every pore" anarchy angle than fincher's "life isn't defined by your acceptance or rejection of modern society, and self-satisfaction lies in choosing your battles" message. Palahniuk, being the hack he is, got so enamored of all the praise from his bareknuckle teenboy fans that he's taken up the pro-anarchy interpretation of the book, making it canon.

the book is one of the atlus shrugged flashpoint texts, because it manages to encapsulate a certain type of social dissatisfaction -- as is appropos of most quasi-religious tracts. as a result, it has its creepy-ass faithful who regurgitate their half-baked interpretation of it in all-too-many venues, and have gained the book far more notoriety than its pseudo-intellectualism deserves.

I'm going to write a book where a hack writer unknowingly writes a novel that becomes a rallying cry for terrorists, who then worship him as some kind of prophet, when he was really just a hack writer who wrote a half-baked story while eating Cheetos and watching re-runs of Stargate SG1.

Palahniuk wrote Invisible Monsters first, his publishers said that was "too dark, but *I* loved it", so rather then tone it down he made something ten times more fucked up (this is all for entertainment, not for any message) and wrote Fight Club with inspiration from getting drunk every night and getting into a fight so that he could write it the next day at work wating for parts to arrive.

BOTH are shit, that's what I'm saying.

On the other hand, its abysmal performance at the box office and its thorough trashing by critics is what has apparently soured Travolta on Scientology.  He was told, as a matter of fate, that the movie would be as important as The Holy Bible and make him so successful and all of this crap.  He apparently wants out, but word is that they've got a bunch of taped auditing sessions against him, so he's stuck.

My guess is that there's recordings of him admitting he likes to do it up the pooper, so he'd rather be blackmailed than be outed.

The Departed is shit because of lack of variety in characters, therefore having no point.

Sad thing is I went into it thinking it had to be a little good if TDS liked it so much.

The only thing I might not respect Marlon Brando for is how much you want his cock in your mouth PD.

The problem with the story is: unless you read a summary, you're not going to know that.

I and most others who saw the film didn't need a fucking summary, so no, you don't.

Where did you get the idea that that character wanted to be good exactly?

HE DOESN'T WANT TO BE GOOD YOU THICK FUCK. He just wants redemption for the evil he has done.

That is the single shallowest story I have ever heard.  What in the fuck would make the audience give a fuck about a character wanting to change if they never were attached to him?

Snatch is awesome. For a guy accused of aping QT (how is this even possibly, when QT himself is a borderline thief?), Ritchie outdoes QT here. Probably my #2 film of 2000 behind Wonder Boys. Brad Pitt fucking rocked in this, and Jason Statham, who I have grown to LOATHE is his one-note American action flicks since this film, is totally awesome here. I think the man should have stuck with doing slightly more comedic fare like this. He is better at it then all-out brainless action. Zee Germans?

Also, I dont even like Oasis, but "Fucking In The Bushes" was such a perfect song selection in this film.

Too bad it all went in the shitter for Ritchie after this  :'(

Solo have you not seen Crank? I love stathman's character i agree that the transporter movies kind of sucked at least the second one did for sure. The first was a blend of good and bad. You can not go wrong with Snatch.

FUCK YES SOLO

"Fucking In The Bushes" is so awesome in that movie holy crap

Snatch is really one of the all-time favorites. It's so damn rewatchable.

I'd say to definitely check out Crank, Solo. Like Bz says, it actually has less full-out action than I thought it would, and it was pretty damn funny.

True that. I think I am due for a rewatch very soon. Vinnie Jones is fucking awesome in this too. Cold blooded killer who loves Madonna.  :lol

Yes, but this was before she totally latched into him and ruined his career.

Pre-Madonna: Lock, Stock, and Snatch
Post-Madonna: Swept Away, Revolver

Whore.

Its a shame Revolver won't be released in the States. Even though I've heard its terrible, at least it will be more interesting to watch than 95% of the crap that DOES get released over here. Plus, I've watched some of the scenes on YouTube and it doesn't look half bad (imo).
