Tbh I think all 5 are certified bangers and this is a tough choice

If I had to pick one to replay, it'd be BotW because it's so open ended. If I had to pick one to recommend to a new player, I'd say Nier because everyone should complete Automata at least once. I have the most total hours in RDR2 thanks to RDO.
...but Witcher 3 is my favorite.

I think RDR2 was the best game this generation (ps4/xbone), but i have a hard time picking between it and Witcher 3, especially if i factor in the expansions (well, mostly Hearts of Stone).
RDR2 has a better story and it's more cohesive, but i really like the atmosphere of W3 and some of its side-quests were really fun to go through.
Plus the choose your path mechanic of RPG quests (some of them anyway) just satisfies something primal, i believe.
Gameplay wise, i think RDR2 has more interesting ideas and systems, but they're both deeply flawed in the combat department.
It's hard to say because i played with W3 modded to hell in that regard (loot balancing and all that) so i dunno how it would've been if played vanilla.
In the end though, i think RDR2 is all around a better product and, especially, more one-of-a-kind (a 200 million dollars western-themed game), whereas Witcher 3, while fantastic, is more within the realm of what we have seen already, in similar forms.

I'd have to go with Witcher 3, since it's the one on the list I put over 100 hours into.

Nier for me, I think it's one of my favorite games that whole gen.
Couldn't get into BOTW, haven't played the others yet (really want to finally buckle down and play Witcher 3 soon, especially with the new season of the TV show out)

It's weird to hear RDR controls criticized, because I haven't managed to grok Witcher from its tutorial yet. Yeah, yeah, "git gud" but I don't have any trouble with Red Dead's combat -- yeah, the controls are arcane and opaque, but the tutorial at least got me to learn them.

Whatever do you mean, good sir?! It's entirely intuitive that, when you wish to eat something to "fill your cores" (itself a poorly explained game design), you can L1 to bring up the radial menu, then while still holding L1, ALSO tap R1 to move to the ITEMS "radial tab," then WHILE STILL HOLDING L1, move Right Analog Stick to select the "food" category. Then use L2 or R2 to select within the food category which food you want. The effects will show up in the center of the radial menu, so remember to release L1 when you have the desired item still highlighted by holding Right Analog Stick toward it.
THEN YOU'RE GONNA EAT.
Yeah, the controls are a shit-show.
