Title: Dragon Age 4: Dreadwolf: The Veilguard: The Redemption Origins
Post by: Let's Cyber on June 07, 2024, 01:37:25 PM
The rotting corpse of the video game developer formerly known as BioWare is releasing a new entry in the long dead Dragon Age series. Unlike the very much vaporeware Mass Effect 4, Dragon Age 4 is actually a real game that is definitely coming out. After being internally scraped and rebooted multiple times, a follow up to Inquisition is coming and supposedly this year even! It only took them 10 fucking years, JFC!  If any of the other 3 people that still post here would like to discuss Dragon Age, this is the thread for you.

We could get a new trailer today or during the Xbox show, but for sure gameplay on June 11rh. I'll update this OP accordingly.

With that out of the way, Morrigan is the best companion in the series and it's not even close.

I've not played any Dragon Age game.

Should I start with Dragon Age II?

Dragon Age II is considered peak roleplaying in the gaming sphere.

It was in no way simplified or dumbed downed compared to it's predecessor nor was its development rushed by the shitty ass publisher.

Enjoy.

Going back to mission based, no more open world wandering or hiinterlands collectathons. Only 2 squadmates at a time a la Mass Effect. Every companion is romanceable by every sex/race.

Something about the art direction that feels really off to me for some reason.  Combat looks decent enough.

I really, really love the worldbuilding and lore of the Dragon Age universe, I just want them to put out decent games for it at this point.

Inquisition was already halfway to an action game, I don't really have a problem with that direction. Just give me good characters (like half of the Inquisition crew was bad IMO) and interesting reveals for the big questions concerning the world and we're good.

Hope we get melee and magic character gameplay, a lvl 1 rogue isn't really the best showcase.

Anyone pick this up? Reviews are ok, but the talk of the last mission being awesome got my attention.

I'll probably push through and skip the side stuff, I'm more interested in the lore implications.  :doge

I haven't planned on getting it (yet), but I also read how the game builds up pretty dramatically and has a climactic endgame.

Around 10 hours in. It's a polarizing game for me.

  • I hate the tone. Everything is too jokey, quips everywhere.
This is the vibe I got from the trailers; this, on top of the "stylized, teen friendly" art direction, has not jived with me.
And now reading about the combat seeming to step even further from it's origins, sounds like.... I'd rather just play more Dragon's Dogma. lol

And leave it to dunkey to compile the CONS together...
