It looks good but I can’t help but see the Sonic and Mario influences. Ape Escape was a far more original and fun looking platformer but I’ll check it out when I get a ps5 pro.

And that is not a bad thing.  If they changed the formula too much, it would be hard to appeal to the broader audience.  The bigger catch though, is the DualSense integration these games utilize so extremely well.  Rescue Mission used every ounce of the DS4, while Playroom was basically a fun 4-5 hour romp of learning what the DualSense could do.  And apparently, they went above and beyond with this full fledged installment.  Making a game unique to hardware, a la Nintendo of old, is great.  (This is obviously coming to PC eventually, but without a DS controller, it won't be the same... Just like Returnal)

Of course, the icing on the cake is all the Playstation feels Astro delivers.  Playroom was also a PS nostalgia romp down memory lane.  It let people know, don't think we forgot all what made us great.  Some people felt it was cringe, but it's no different than a modern Mario game playing a 8-bit music track from SMB, and the older players saying, aww... those were good times!

Sony has had a massive slump of original games of late, but this is Sony coming back with a haymaker that it needs to show they can do more than angry dad squeezes through another crevasse to save their brain rot kid cinematic adventure game, and appeal to everyone with content that's literally for everyone to enjoy and smile at some point while playing it.  I will be impossible not to smile while playing anything Astrobot.

I'm very excited to play this, but won't be buying it at full price immediately.

As expected, reviews are all stellar.  Currently sitting at 94 MC.  (Should be higher with so many perfect scores  ??? )

It's funny to see opinions on the comparisons of Mario games in the reviews.  Guess it boils down to what people feel was the best 3D Mario.  For me, Mario peaked with Galaxy 1 & 2, which allot of people did compare it to.  But there are those that compare it to Odyssey too, which I found extremely dull and boring, so there's some salt there.  (Some of the hats were neat, but the bosses were extremely unoriginal and felt very watered down when compared to prior 3D Mario games.)

It's crazy how polarizing it is between this and the bomba-ist of BOMBA, Concord.  If this doesn't slap the industry in the face that people don't want bullshit, and just want fun games, maybe money and focus will be put elsewhere when it comes to creativity.  For Sony's sake, I feared quite alot when they dissolved so much of their Japanese Studios down to this one, but like a forest fire, new life can begin fresh afterwards.  It was a suicidal gamble in that aspect, IMO, but it seems it is starting to pay off.  And as much as I adored Rescue Mission (and still think is the greatest 3D platformer of all time, having yet to play AB), and wanted a PSVR2 follow up, it was much smarter for them to go this route initially.

I hope I can at least start it up tonight, but I'll be going all in tomorrow night for sure.  So giddy!

Oh shit..  Playroom's Secret Labo area even has a countdown celebration that builds.  They really are pulling all the stops.  Guess I'm going to have to experiance this tonight at unlock at the very least!  :hyper

That metacritic is so deserved. The VR game was the system seller for PSVR and the mini-campaign with the PS5 was fantastic.
This is one of the best developers Sony has and I just wish Sony cared more about marketing the IP to keep it relevant since the PS5 launch until now.

Hopefully they realize with these scores that the IP and team have potential and start marketing more Astrobot over the years until Astrobot2.

That's ok, my extra $10 thrown on the deluxe edition and the Astrobot controller to support Asobi will make up for it  :)

That controller is tempting…

My concern with ordering it is it’ll sit in a mailbox for a couple months. Whenever I head home for a few weeks, I’m setting aside time for Astro Bot and the new Zelda game.

Who knows, but I don’t think Astro Bot will get a PC port.

Stayed up with my kids to watch the countdown in Playroom.  :D

The last 15 second part played the PS1 start up sound.  :aah
So neat they did this!

Was hoping the portal would load into the new game directly, but I guess they can't really pull that off for reasons.

This game is amazing.

Didn't give two shits about his 3 or 4 days ago. I was a fool.

The bots you get in Astro Playroom show up at the crash site as just bonus bots

That is a really cool addition. I love it when games make use of previous games' accomplishments, just by referencing save data (and a shit-tonne of behind-the-scenes work).

Amazing game, just gotta do the final postgame difficulty challenge and I'll have it platted. Absolutely lovely graphics, great use of haptic feedback, tons of creativity. I like it better than most of the 3D Mario games tbh.

Only disappointment is:

No Mega Man bot??? The most obvious character to have a bot...

That, and also

Regina from Dino Crisis.  Can't help but to feel Capcom has some special reason for not putting them in there atm, as they may have something planned soon?  I dunno.

Other than that, yeah, this game is simply the best, hand down.  The above post quite literally made my jaw drop last night.

Speedbagging the feels like...

First game I ever decided to get a platinum trophy for. Pretty good game!
