Creating a placeholder thread for when Nintendo announces the Switch 2

Well, now with the supposed model leaks, yeah... Fuck this thing. Same shitty joycons and design. $400 for the system, but at least another $70 for a Pro controller?... Who knows; they'll probably charge extra for a dock too. :doge

I'm all for the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mentality, but FIX YOUR DAMN JOYCON DESIGNS, NINTENDO! Who puts an analog stick directly below button placement?! Oh.. right... Nintendo. Because people control the analog with the metacarpal part of their thumb all the time, right? :doge
-
Switch has been around for seven years now and Nintendo never releasing "Pro" joycons is very much a Nintendo strategy.
Third party companies did the work for them. Just do what Hori did, but official.

Let me be more clear: I loved both those systems, and shipped 3 games on NGC that are among the best I've made. Nintendo putting 4 ports on every console meant 4-player support guaranteed, unlike making something on PS1/PS2 where a multitap was needed, meaning devs automatically are supporting only a subset of the userbase. And dropping a Silicon Graphics chip in N64 ws mad, mad genius. Too bad not enough RAM for textures…
But from a sales standpoint, both those systems were disappointments.
-
Think I missed the wave for the 3DS. Time of life and not wanting to play a handheld, I don’t know. Only have a handful of games and most are Kirby and Zelda. Everybody speaks highly of its library.

Unless they bring back some classics with proper Remaksters, like LA, can't say I'm too fond of the new BOTW1&2 formula... it kinda sucks.
Also, I can't see them continuing Metroid further past the dreadful Dread... Also too, unless they revamp a classic. I can see them remaking M Fusion for some reason. MP4 will be good I'm sure, but that last reveal just didn't strike any chords with me.
And last for me, a Mario Odyssey 2 will have to bring it fucking hard to tempt me. The first one was also only good IMO. Nothing too special... Especially now where Astrobot has easily taken the 3D platformer throne for me, no holds barred. Still believe 3D Mario peaked with the Galaxy 1 & 2.
That all being said, if the 2 Switch 2 UUUUU is going to indeed carry the same docking, handheld shitty joycon's way, it's even less tempting.
So yeah.... :nope

There are so many amazing games on the 3DS but then you have to sit down and play on a 3DS
I do have the Majora's Mask 3DS, and have a bunch of amazing rpg's on it. SMT IV and the like.
I want more games but I sold all my physical shit

Do you think the Factor 5 Pilotwings will be a launch title

TBH, they can probably keep the Switch going for a couple more years. The same people who said Nintendo “needs” to release a Switch Pro are the types who are now saying Nintendo “needs” to release a Switch 2.
I think Nintendo perfectly captured their market with the Switch and the only real successor option is just a more powerful Switch, which runs into the risk of people just deciding to hang onto their original Switch.

A broken clock is still right twice a day. Lol
Glad they at least confirmed it exists and is BC. So far though, ain't sold on shit yet. Already hate the joycons.
-
It was exciting to see the rumors all confirmed but the video itself was pretty lame.
The Switch rooftop parties were iconic, and its a shame they didnt do a reveal video in that style.
Also, it didnt help that MK looked identical to 8.
Sure, MK8 is gorgeous...on the Wii U. Has technology not advances since 2014?
-
I, for one, actually like it when Nintendo does their own exclusive gimmick type things. They are gimmicks, But I feel there needs to be something that makes playing a game on there unique from any other place. Being able to use Joycons as a mouse, is not it. But I guess they're probably playing it safe and are hoping to attract more PC ports with that control utilization. I still wish they went back to dual screen.
Now if they pulled off some insanity and did a Xenogears HD 2D exclusive remake, then I might bite... Or a Classic Zelda remake.
My guess ATM, it's gonna be $399.

It doesn't look identical, but obviously the cartoony art style is being kept from the previous games.
-
Looks like an incremental step. Nothing to get excited over. I think the OG Switch will still be enough for most people so keeping the design and backwards compatibility functionality is important. Probably the least ambitious Nintendo console yet but when they still sell millions of Switches and Mario Kart 8 has sold over 60 million copies, I understand them playing it safe.
I’ll still buy it because I’m a sucker, of course. Can’t wait to play New Bing Bing Wahoo.

Did anyone buy this thing?
Its basically a Switch Pro, which is what we wanted....in 2021. And the game lineup is Mario Kart and...nothing else?
What was Nintendo doing for 8 years.

Wasn't planning to buy one at launch and was going to wait however long to pick one up, but was on vacation during the launch, walked into a store and found and plenty available, so picked it up. It's not like the price is going to drop anyway.
The launch line-up is lackluster for sure, but it doesn't matter. Shitty console launches are kinda typical. I got Mario Kart, Fast Fusion, Street Fighter 6, and Cyberpunk. The latter two are fantastic ports overall. Mario Kart is awesome. Fast is cool.
But the best thing? Switch 1 games run better. Depending on the game you can get better framerates, faster load times, and/or higher resolutions. Pretty much any Switch game that has an uncapped frame rate and/or dynamic resolution is going to benefit the most. Some titles like Bayonetta 3 and Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity feel like new games because of how much smoother they are and how much better they play because of it.
I'm pretty happy with the system overall. The screen could be better - there's noticeable ghosting on some titles, but it's not enough to be a bother- and I'm not the biggest fan of the joy-cons once again, but the latter will be resolved when third party joy-cons come out and I can play with a controller anyway. Mario Kart being priced at $80 is still a bunch of bullshit but whatever. LOL if they release dlc and charge more for it.

Making tons of money (see: Joe's reply)

I got a Switch 2. It's a nice piece of tech, way more sturdy and nice than Switch 1. My first actual Switch 2 game will probably be Donkey Kong, I didn't use my Mario Kart code, will probably sell it.
Playing Bravely Default 2 on it, though it doesn't actually give any benefits
Need to pick up some Switch games I didn't bother playing because of Switch 1
-
Yeah, that's definitely another positive thing- Switch 2 feels a lot sturdier with its joycons attached for sure.

Sort of sad that this is the main reason to get one. Even worse, Minecraft getting an upgrade is what will push me over lmao.
Mario Kart looks amazing but its a game I play for 2 hours every 6 months. Great with guests, but I dont like playing alone, even online.
The GC games are also interesting, but so far I already own 3/4 and my GC is still plugged into the TV.
I know we're in the age of prices going up instead of down, but Im hoping Costco will put together a better bundle (im already on an online family plan with friends, so I dont need that)
