Those of you that have seen Cronenberg's masterpiece will no doubt see the similarities. Some of the shots are even reminiscent. Also, what the hell is with the cover of Lou Reed's A Perfect Day? Chronenberg is gonna get lawyered up and brick on this thing. He hates Americans, you know.

I actually think it looks okay. (but as good as eXistenZ? hmm!)
-
Not to mention a complete rip off of the Stephan king book "Cell" or whatever.

I saw people say that in the comments, but I am unfamiliar with that.
Anyway, this will be vastly inferior to Videodrome since it lacks Debbie Harry putting out cigarettes on her boobs, aka IT SUX. Loses points for A Perfect Day cover, too.

VideoDrome had some awesome visuals.

isn't this the movie Triumph's pals were makin'?

Yeah. It's got its fair share of visually eh moments, but a lot of the effects do hold up pretty well today. Things like the pulsating tapes and TV, and the effect of him going into the TV. The prosthetic chest vagina looks kinda dry, though. The Videodrome room looks pretty cool most of the time. Of course, the "helmet" used to capture hallucinations is kinda eh since it relies on computer technology of the day. There are also a couple of nice trick shots, like when James Woods and Debbie Harry are having sex on the apartment floor, and it turns into the Videodrome room.
Man, now I wanna watch Videodrome.

I liked VideoDrome, I liked the Fly, I liked ExstenZ, but I loathed, LOATHED History of Violence.

I really liked the first 2/3rds and I disliked the last 1/3rd. Even the first 2/3rds has a few issues, notably with unrealistic dialogue (and hand in hand, TV movie quality acting) from them there teenagers.
It was nice to see him try something new, and I think with that in mind, it was a good first attempt. I'm glad to see him get some attention, though. He's kinda been hurting in regards to funding his projects the past couple years. Now he has 2 movies announced and both of them sound pretty interesting.
You ever see Dead Ringers?
-
Havent seen that one.
My problem with HoV is that almost everything is laughable in that movie.
I hate you, No I hate you. Lets have sex on the stairs
THe generic stereotypical bully.
When he palms the badguy's nose and his whole nose comes off. Thats just silly.

I think it just might be really bloody, but point taken. It changes from the shot when he first gets hit.
-
His nose was crammed into/up his skill.
-
This is the movie that Triumph's friends make you bitter, spiteful man.
-
The last third of AHoV kinda lost the momentum for me, but then again the first two thirds were too awesome to really detract from my overall enjoyment.

Tell me that you don't look at this trailer and go SAY THIS REMINDS ME OF VIDEODROME. Except I bet it's lacking in Deborah Harry, cigarettes being put out on boobs, and chest vaginas.
-
Uh, Videodrome wasn't post-apocalyptic, dude.

I'm only going off the trailer!
Also, Doug told me about the Stephen King story that is apparently similar to this, and that sounds like a TOTAL ripoff of a Doctor Who episode. You know King is hurtin' when he is picking ideas from Doctor Who episodes.
-
You can tell that The Signal is some kind of post-apocalyptic story ala The Screwfly Solution or something by the trailer, man!
And King washed up years and years ago. I'm beginning to wonder if there's a shelf life on talent. Maybe that explained why guys like him and Carpenter had any bone of talent dissapear a long time ago.

I couldn't! I didn't see anything that stated "this is a post apocalyptic movie." There were some desolate-y areas, but they could've been in shit urbania.
-
What part of him talking about people all over the place going crazy and killing people, along with shots of people murdering people in desolate areas did you not understand?
-
Neither of those are 100% indicative of a movie being post-apoc.
Look, I get it now that I've been told, but when I first watched it, it didn't seem post-apocalyptic.
-
it didn't look post-apoc to me at all. in fact, I'm not sure it is?

well no need to watch that one, now *crosses off Netflix*
