I'm 11 Hours in and man is there so much shit to do, all revolving around grinding. The grind isn't that bad and the Item world thing is awesome but when you first start the game it feels overwhelming. Its real easy to get in over your head in the Item World. I've already powered up a Chain Mail and Bushido Mail...the two characters that are wearing them are Godly (at that point in the main story battles)
I haven't played a good console SRGP for a long long time and it feels good. I'm also fearing the time sink this game will become :-\ :lol
I love it so far though

Ive put 50 hours into each Disgaea game and never finished them, I just get hopelessly addicted to item world till I sorta taper off and play a different game.

I put 50 or so hours into Disgaea before putting it away and never touching it again. I like it, but it gets too grind heavy, and grind heavy ain't my thing.
I prefer srpgs where you can't go and grind multiple times in one map, and most of the fights are story based, making every fight seem crucial.
Suikoden Tactics is the highlight ps2 srpg for me, but if there was an rpg that has strategy elements and makes it tops, it's gotta be Dragon Quarter.
I just think I don't like N1 srpgs at all.

Its just that Disgaea feels real loose. Almost like a completely open ended game where the main story is just there to push you along while you mess with the other features. I'm finding that I don't mind it at all (so far). Its different and definitely challenging.
I'm thinking about just doing the Item World for a while and have my characters decked out with powered up uber equipment.
Also, speaking of Suikoden Tactics, thats probably the next game I'll pick up. I've been visiting games I haven't touched on the PS2 since I've fallen out of console gaming for a time (and missed these games).

I still have Suik. Tact. in plastic. It's on my list after NWN2. I picked it up at CC for 10 bucks ... they should have plenty in stock.
It makes me happy that people liked it. :spin

disgaea is a fun game. it's all about combat on a grid. the item world and story are just different ways to have combat. i kind of liked the animals from la pucelle more than the disgaea monsters, but otherwise disgaea is a better combat game.

Really underrated srpg. It's hard as hell and has excellent strategy gameplay. The only bad thing are the graphics (which are shit) and the story (which is connected to the shit tastic Suiko IV). Other than that, I'd say it's the definitive ps2 srpg.
