$48 (http://www.engadget.com/2006/08/16/sony-gets-their-50gb-dual-layer-blu-ray-discs-out-the-door/)

word. Now get me that PS3.
-
PS3 GAMES AM $70
-
Haven't recordable BD-50s been out since spring of last year in Japan?
This has nothing to do with 50GB movies.
-
Fuck Blu-Ray. It's the reason why PS3 is $600.
They should have used HD-DVD. Boo hoo, MS supports it. Sony helped MAKE the DVD a reality, and MS didn't cry about it when they used it for the Xbox... and 360.
-
Has there ever been a Sony media format that caught on and became a market standard? Not trolling, genuinely curious.
-
Well, Sony played a major role in the development of the DVD, so they have had success there. But it's not a Sony-only invention.
According to a couple websites, the following compaines developed DVD:
Hitachi, JVC, Matsushita, Mitsubishi, Philips, Pioneer, Sony, Thomson, Time Warner, and Toshiba.
I really don't think a strictly Sony form of media ever became a force to truly be reckoned with. MD has had a lot of success, though. Especially for bootlegging.

Are you sure? Was Sony selling them?

Yes, it's fucking useless.

no one cares about blu-ray. or hd-dvd. sorry

Sony also made the CD media format for gaming the standard when Nintendo tried to stick to tired and true practices. It's call innovation, something new to try...if anything they fail, brush off their knees and get back up. Nintendo did when it stuck to carts, and when to CDs so I don't see why Sony would have such a problem.
If they fail so be it...but as we've learned many times over, the internet gaming community and their predictions often turn out to be wrong. I'll be interested to see where the future of gaming and its media goes...but I'm not going to have "wars" or "debates" over it...in my mind I could care less.
I'm just interested in MGS4 and have been entertained by the last two Sony consoles.

Except this makes it a lot more expensive. It wasn't a barely useable size upgrade that made sony and sega make their games run on CD's.

Clarification: Sony had almost nothing to do with DVD as we know it. It's really Toshiba's format (Super Density disc) with two fairly minor modifications - Philips/Sony's different pit geometry, and Philips' Eight-to-Fourteen Modulation encoding, which was not as efficient as Toshiba's, but more resistant to fingerprints and scratches.

Eh, I think CDs for the PSX was a fairly logical conclusion.
The 3DO used them, as did the Sega CD, Jaguar CD, Sega's Saturn, and even the Playstation was born out of the development of a CD add-on for the SNES.
[edit] Oops, forgot about the TurboGrafx CD/TurboDuo, FM Towns Marty, and Philips CD-i.

don't you think it's a bit trival to "troll" a gaming machine/company?

No it isn't. Why would you say that? You flame the hell out of a poster, claimed that nobody bugs you on the internet, and then flamed the same poster in another topic that I believe that that poster made. I believe the word that you used was "masochist"?
-
and what does this have to do with a gaming machine?
-
FM Towns Marty was the first ;)
That is the BEST worse console name of ALL TIME.
So bad, it's good.
And thanks for clearing up the DVD info.
-
and what does this have to do with a gaming machine?
You're being a hypocrite by being biased against somebody else.
-

Are the games really going to be $70? I don't keep up with all the rumors.
-
Im ready to believe whatever fuels my trolling.
-
$70 games? What the fuck, Sony?
-
