Title: Anyone ever make lamb chops?
Post by: Ecrofirt on February 09, 2007, 08:08:44 PM
I just bought some tonight, but i've never made them before. I've got no idea how to cook them at all, so any ideas would be great.

Do you have a grill?

I suggest getting a lemony marinade and grill them while putting a wee bit of garlic on them.  delicious.

No charcoal for the grill tonight, but I do have that skillet with the grill lines. I wonder if that would work.

Probably not the same taste, obviously.  But I think it would work good enough.  That's how I always cook mine anyways.

marinade them for a hour before you cook it if you choose to cook it on a grill. Thats my only tip for lamb.

Lamb is very soft meat its great stuff. I'd suggest buttery herb with garlic also get some rice pilaf

Yup, you need to marinade them. After that stick them in the oven and cook until done; maybe an hour or so. There are plently of recipes online

So they turned out great for my first time ever eating lamb. I've never made it before ,so I don't know exactly how well done it's supposed to be. That being said, I made it medium rare or so, and they were DELICIOUS.

Here's what I did:
* Took a big ziplock bag, and put in a mixture of lemon juice and italian dressing. I didn't measure, but it was probably a few tablespoons of each. Enough to put a light coat on the bottom of my chops when I marinated it.

* To the italian dressing / lemon jiuce mix I added some Garlic powder, Rosemary Leaves, Thyme Leaves, and ground sage. A few sprinkles of each, just to add some flavor.

* I stuck my 2 chops in there, and initially shook them up to get a nice light coating of the marinade. After that, I left them to marinate for like an hour and a half, flipping them over half way through.

I then just stuck them on my skilled for like 5.5 minutes or so per side, and were they ever fantastic. Best $3.50 I've spent in awhile.

I can't stand lamb. It really stinks.

They're nasty. For some reason, meat outside of beef, chicken, turkey, alligator, and a few others taste good to me. Once you get to rabbit and lamb it's  :-X

Bagofeyes isn't kidding either. Lamb meat SMELLS.

Yeah lamb is great huh. Your method was pretty sound for someone who hasnt cooked it before, but personally I think you went a bit overboard with the herbs and dressing. I prefer lamb with just a simple seasoning of rosemary (essential herb for lamb), thyme, salt and pepper. Bake those for about 30- 40 minutes.

Nope! I won't eat veal because it's a baby cow, and I'm not going to eat lamb because it's baby sheep. Baby animals are meant to be cute, not slaughtered.

Like you know where your meat is from in the first place

I know that calves are kept in small pens where they can't move and only drink milk.

I honestly don't know the difference between a lot of meats, but my grandma knows I have a strong moral objection to veal and would never make me eat it. She never makes it anyway because it's too expensive, but if she did, she'd tell me what it was so I wouldn't eat it.

Morals? It's your food. You are better than a baby calf, so go ahead and eat it's legs. They're good.

Rise Nikki, slay and eat

Sometimes when I salt my chops I wonder if the baby calf cried as they cut off its legs one by one. Then I laugh and pour get the A1 out

[But at least they're in the grass and not cooped up in a goddamn pen that restricts all their movement!]

I love lamb, either in gyros or just a regular chop. I marinate them in red wine vinegar, a bit of olive oil, salt, pepper, and garlic. Gotta try making my own yogurt sauce one of these days.
