Title: Knights of the Old Republic
Post by: Himu on February 10, 2007, 12:23:35 AM
Giving this game another go. I have it for pc, but I guess pc ain't my platform for this game. I got to Tattoine last time and just stopped. I like it a lot for the quests but the battle system left a lot to be desired.

I now have it for Xbox and I'm trying to find the inner workings of the abilities and stuff. Just got Bastilla and I'm heading to meet the Mandolorean in the cantina. I'm messing around with powers and abilities and feats and I've been wondering if someone could pass some tips. What feats and powers do you suggest the most? I just gave Bastilla a couple of powers that increase defense +4 or so.

Is it safe to use auto level up in this game?

This game was pretty amazing.  One of my favorites from the Xbox.

Didn't really grab me in the 2-3 hours I gave it.

The quests make the game for me. Even if I thought the battle system was iffy, that matters not because of the sheer amount of quests.

Maybe I'll give it a shot when I eat through my backlog. FF12 has made me more open to goofy combat systems, I think.

NEVER auto-level.

For everybody that isn't a jedi, make them learn melee weapons feats.  Make Jedi's learn lightsaber ones.

If you want somebody who's better at taking out a lot of weaker opponents, upgrade their two-handed skills.  If you want somebody who's better at taking out single but stronger enemies make them learn dueling which is for one hand.

At Dantooine, go to the crystal cave to get good crystals from the egg sacks (you should do this before getting 2 star forge maps...) and you get them by targeting them and selecting up on the D-pad (like changing a grenade type) to bash them open.

Make sure you download the Yavin Base Station from Live because it's basically just a shop that buys your racing bonds (this is your payment for winning races) at about twice the price of other places and generally gives the best deals in the game.  It expands in the items it has after you find two star forge maps and again after you find 4.

Since you're at the beginning, make them learn toughness, advanced toughness, etc. in order to give you a lot more health.

Don't level up charisma and make the main character learn the dominate mind force power for persuade since you can use force powers soon.

One robot is better at security and the other at computer use so whichever one is already leveled up a lot in that keep leveling them up in that but you'll rarely use them.

It's best to play this game with a soldier.  If you want to make it hard play with a scoundrel.

If you use the force power for running fast (convenient) then you can't use any armor other then a jedi robe but you have to learn the feats for heavier and heavier armors in the first place.

Master Speed (thid speed upgrade) upgrades your defense in fighting I believe.

Don't learn destroy droid force powers until your third planet.

If you want to be light side learn stun/stasis.

Talking about Wookies, the one thing I hated about the planet Kashyyk was that all the dialogue couldn't be understood.

The first time I played Kotor I hit a game breaking glitch half way though and had to start again.  I got 6 hours in to kotor 2 and hit a glitch were my entire party just dissapered, so I gave up.  I loved Kotor but fuck its built poorly.  Hopefully with 3 they make new engines where they don't have monkeys doing the coding for them.

I left Dantooine and I went to Mamaan or whatever. As I left my ship for the port, the Wookie told me that someone was stealing rations and stuff. So I went around the ship looking for whatever, and find me a little girl who speaks Mandolorean. I couldn't decipher what she was saying at all so I had to piece all of her words together. I found it quite hilarious.

That part was too hard, use walkthrough.  I think she snuck aboard from Dantooine.

Well in the "mystery package" mission it's best to use a walkthrough.

That and a couple puzzles.
